For my first Christmas tablescape, I imagined a quiet celebration taking place in a small village. In the center is the village green surrounded by shops and houses.
The table is set with placemats of abstract evergreen branches and berries. Two plates are stacked, one a trellis design calling to mind gorgeous summer gardens, the other a well-loved song of Christmas.
Last year, my first holiday table featured the first four days of Christmas (A Partridge in a Pear Tree), so I began this year with the fifth day.
On the fifth day ... five golden rings |
On the sixth day ... six geese a laying |
The dinner plates amplify the blues found in the lovely salad plates.
On the seventh day ... seven swans a swimming |
On the eighth day ... eight maids a milking |
The village green hosts several types of buildings done in various styles, but all in cream.
Each is bedecked with gold, red and green accents.
I find them charming from every angle!
The coffee service awaits on the buffet.
It's a bit ironic that my first holiday tablescape features the Twelve Days of Christmas, since they don't actually begin until December 26 and continue until Twelfth Night, the evening of January 6.
May you enjoy all the days of Christmas — and sing this song for me!
This is absolutely delightful! The quaint village works so well with the rest of the decor and no doubt I'll be singing that song with you for a long time. Also, I was considering using my Dickens Village pieces again after many years of keeping them stored away and this was the encouragement I needed.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I took a new look at the village and decided they could be used in a different way this year. I was pleased with the way they centered the table. You should definitely used your Dickens Village again -- they'll seem new!
DeleteSuch a pretty table with your All the Days of Christmas salad plates and your cute Lenox village houses. Nice idea to start with the fifth day of Christmas. Can’t wait to see your next Christmas table.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy. My husband surprised me with the salad plates and the village -- he's got good taste! So glad you stopped by!
DeleteWow, such a stunner! Your Christmas village is my favorite. That's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! The village was collected a piece or two at a time over a dozen years or so. Perhaps I should do a post featuring the whole village!
DeleteThank you for sharing your beautiful table, quite inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm so glad you found something you liked in it!
DeleteWonderful Christmas decor!Gorgeous dishes!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love how detailed the scenes on the plates are.
DeleteSandra, those plates are beautiful and I love them layered with the blue! The village square certainly is pretty from all angles. Thanks for sharing with Creating Christmas.

Thanks, Jann! The blue plates may not be Christmas-conventional but somehow they just felt right paired with the 12 Days plates. Loved joining the party!
DeleteLovely table - the china combination is stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol! I was pleased with the pairing - sometimes you just have to try something new.
DeleteOh, the china is even prettier up close. And I especially love that your village green is all in cream. I've not seen that set before either and I'm inclined to move toward that more than some of the others. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanie! The more I use the china, the more I love it. I'm so glad you came for a visit!
DeleteThis table is totally enchanting Sandra ! I'm zooming looking at those gorgeous Xmas salad plates. The white porcelain village centerpiece is stunning and so is your Holiday tea set. Happy Xmas season
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Fabby
Thank you, Fabby! I love the painterly quality of the plate and tea set designs. We started buying the village pieces as gifts, and -- well, you know how it goes!
DeleteBeautiful collection and decor! I'd love having dinner there and chatting a way with you. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cindy! Special dinners and special people make for a memorable time. Have a Merry Christmas!
DeleteThe village is just charming. I love this with the blue under plate. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie! Maybe this shade of blue isn't traditionally Christmas, but I thought it complemented the other dishes.
DeleteYou're right, that blue plate really ties it all together! I love the houses, they're lovely. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathleen! The blue somehow gave the table a French country feel.
