A Dozen Fall Tables to Celebrate the Season

After enduring the long, hot days of summer, I'm more than ready to enjoy the delights of autumn, which officially arrived today with the equinox! I thought I'd share a dozen fall tables that approach autumn design in different ways to celebrate the new season and inspire you (and me!) to design tablescapes with lovely colors and wonderfully iconic themes. Just click on each title to view the complete post!

1.  We'll start with a table that showcases the last of summer's wildflowers and the reign of fall's chrysanthemums in Acorns and Flowers. Deeply colored plates feature dramatic depictions of fall flowers and unique acorns on pretty linens highlight the last wildflowers of summer.

2.  Texture plays a strong role in fall tablescapes — demonstrated in Leaves and Pumpkins on a Fall Table by the weave of the linens and the charger, the raised patterns of the stoneware, the etched designs of the glassware, the beaded edge of the flatware, and the smooth surface of the salad plates.

And let's not forget the impact of a centerpiece made of pumpkins!

3.  Ideas for tablescapes can come from disparate sources. As the title says, Setting the Table with Art was inspired by my collection of hand-coiled pottery and intricately woven basketry.

One of the things that attracts me are the graphic patterns that are painted and woven in useful items that transcend the ordinary.

4.  As cooler temps begin to prevail in autumn, I want to wrap myself in warm sweaters and comfortable throws. Textural coppers and blues atop a fringed plaid cloth create an inviting setting for informal meals in A Cozy Plaid Setting for Fall.

A copper pitcher and twining garland are a colorful backdrop for a pair of sassy birds!

5.  In Autumn Arrives with Color, a light colored tablecloth block printed in gold was a lovely contrast to the striking salad plates and boldly colored centerpiece. This table revels in the vivid flowers that burst into flower shops and gardens!

6.  The exuberance of the season was captured by bringing the colors of autumn to Setting the Table for a November Birthday.

The mix of textures and details in the items that form the center design bring interest to the simplest of tables.

7.  Although I love the vibrant shades of fall, sometimes I want to ease into the season with soft colors.

The tablecloth and rectangular flower arrangement were the focus of the First Tablescape of the Fall.

8.  For a graceful tablescape style, add ample doses of copper for Blue and Copper for Effortless Style .

The clean lines of the tablescape worked harmoniously with the stylized pattern of the dishware and the more formal setting of the dining room.

9. What better way to celebrate the uniqueness of the season than by using nature's bounty? Fall Beckons with Leaves on the Table celebrates the changing colors that make autumn so spectacular.

Leaves gathered from the garden are both lovely to look at and easy to do.

10. Garden harvests can bring more than pumpkins to the table, demonstrated by Falling for Apples.

Apples and plums are piled in a softly tarnished silver bowl.

11.  One of the first designs to appear on the blog, I still enjoy the interplay of pattern and texture in Russet and Olive. (Please forgive the first stumbling attempts by the then newbie blogger/photographer!)

For a casual table, a low bowl filled with grocery pumpkins and pretty leaves from the garden are all you need in the fall.

12.  To round out my dozen tables I chose Grateful Harvest, one of my favorite Thanksgiving tables I've done. Pumpkins in all shapes, sized and colors tumbled atop a gorgeous base built an elegantly graceful harvest table.

High and low pairings are one of the most effective ways to bring interest and individuality to tablescapes along with intriguing items that are one-of-a-kind.

I hope these tables will provide inspiration for creating lovely fall tables that celebrate the new season!

Table resources are listed in each post.

  3. Beautiful tables, Sandra. I love those WS black salads and have them too. They remind me of Old World paintings from the masters. I also love your Native American inspired table!

  5. Sandra, these are are beautiful tables, each and every one of them. It's hard to choose a favorite, although I am partial to the Grateful Harvest as I have those plates too and they get a lot of use here. But then there's the one with the paisley tablecloth and leaf salads on the gorgeous rust dinner plates, and the one with the soft colors of fall, and the one with blue and white and the one... As I said, all beautiful and wonderfully different and unique!
