Enchanting Valentine's Day Table Setting Ideas

One of the most delightful holidays is Valentine's Day! In the midst of February's dark days and challenging weather, comes a day to celebrate love, whether that means romance, friendship, or family.

When you decide to set a Valentine's table, where do you begin? Do you choose a theme such as hearts and flowers, or pink and red? Do you make sure to include special goodies? If you don't know where to start, I've selected some enchanting table setting ideas that you can use as inspiration for your own Valentine's table! Click on the highlighted titles to view the original posts and tableware details.

Tulips that were still tightly furled and chrysanthemums just beginning to unfold were the inspiration for a table that celebrates the interplay of white, gold and soft shades of pink and rose with flowers sprinkled throughout.

Celebrate with Friends and Flowers on Valentine's Day

For this Valentine's Day I decided to embrace the color red for the table, with generous doses of white and silver — and a dash of sparkle!

My daughter suggested friendship as the Valentine theme, so I set the table for Julia and three of her friends who've been together varying amounts of time: Vera, Allison, and Kathy.

Sweet Treats and Hot Chocolate — A Buffet for Valentine's Day

I confess I have a soft spot for hot chocolate, preferably made with milk with a bit of whipping cream if available. Marshmallows on top are a plus. All through January I've had a hot chocolate station set up on the corner of the kitchen island with a choice of either milk chocolate or mint chocolate.

Knowing my winter fixation, my sweet MIL gave me a huge basket of chocolate drink fixings and snacks for Christmas! I've happily added the basket to my island setup.

Between our recent snow and ice storms — spurred on by a week of ultra low temps for Georgia — we invited her to join us last Sunday for a Valentine's sweet treats and hot chocolate buffet!

Artistry and Romance — A Valentine's Table

With February 14 fast approaching, it's time to think about what type of table you might want to set for Valentine's Day! I know that not everyone celebrates this holiday, but I find it a welcome respite from the winter blues. It's a holiday that's very flexible — you can celebrate romantic love, love for your children, family bonds, or the strength of friendships. Or all at once!

I'm delighted that you're joining me today for I have a special treat in store for you! Including myself, there are eighteen stylists that have been organized by Rita of Panoply in a special tablescape hop to share our ideas for Valentine's Day tables with you. All the details are included at the bottom of this post.

I decided to set a table that celebrates Valentine's by focusing on romance through artistry.

A Valentine's Table with Flowers, Ribbons and Hearts

What could be more romantic than flowers? Perhaps setting a lovely table to showcase their blooms and enjoy their fragrances on a winter's day. Especially if done for Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day — A Table Set for Tea

Valentine's Day is nearly here! Valentine's Day can be romantic, friendly, sentimental, classic or a mixture of all of them. I didn't really focus on Valentine's until my daughter was born and I was able to see holidays of all kinds through her eyes. Suddenly Valentine's Day became something I looked forward to each year. When she was 4, 5, 6 and 7 she had a Valentine's Tea Party with three of her friends and their dolls, complete with "tea", treats and themed crafts.

So of course I set a table for tea for Valentine's Day with the beautiful tea dishes she gave me for Christmas!

A Little Romance for Valentine's Day

In these strangest of times, I'm looking forward to a little romance for Valentine's Day! I've eagerly set a table for two that whispers 'love'.

Lovingly prepared foods, effervescent champagne, chocolate mousse for dessert. Feeling cozy in the midst of winter. A bit of poetry to set the mood. Romance is in the air!

Pretty in Pink

To celebrate Valentine's Day I set up a tableau on the kitchen island that's pretty in pink!

 And decidedly girlish!

The Softer Side of Pink

When my daughter was small, she hosted Valentine's Day Tea Parties for her friends. She and I selected the tablewares to use, the goodies to eat and the crafts to make. Miss J and her friends dressed up, brought their favorite dolls (who had a table to themselves!) and had such fun on otherwise deary February days.

I didn't create Valentine's Day tables again until I began blogging and found such delight in creating pretty tables and vignettes for a charming holiday. For this year's table I chose as a theme the softer side of pink paired with white and accented by gold.

Tea and Chocolate on a Winter's Day

Sleet, high winds and — thunder. What a day! Glad there was nowhere I had to go!

I decided the thing to do was indulge in hot tea and chocolate on a winter's day.

Hearts and Flowers

I don't always decorate for Valentine's Day – in fact I haven't done so on a regular basis since my daughter was small. But I remember how much fun she and I had putting together her tea parties with hearts and flowers. So in the past few years I have once again begun decorating for Valentine's, although usually only in the dining room.

Charnwood Hearts

I have to confess that I have a laissez-faire approach to Valentine's Day. Most of my adult life, February 14 came and went like every other day.
