Falling for Apples

To me, fall begins with apples and plums arriving in the stores. I brought an armload home the other day and set some in a bowl on the table. Their deep colors set off by the silver bowl became the centerpiece for a table celebrating the autumn equinox.

Fall is all about colors and textures. Shades of green form the backdrop in the placemats and dinner plates, just as they do outside.

Textures take on new prominence, found in the woven chargers and figural plates.

The plates had an all together different kind of look in a July tablescape -- same plates, but with other components.

The rim of the antique bowl is heavily detailed and echoes the pattern of the chargers.

Fresh camellia leaves from the garden peek out from beneath the centerpiece, an easy take on faux-leaf placemats.

The candle holders somehow feel both organic and classical. They made their first appearance here last fall.

Dark reds appear in the napkins, a color midway between the apples and the plums.

Apples and plums are repeated in the soup bowls, with plates alternating between leaves and dragonflies. As a side note, we’ve had more dragonflies than usual this year around the pond!

The table looks forward to fall, without quite leaving summer behind!

Soon we’ll be enjoying roast pork dinners with homemade apple sauce, delicious apple pies and hot (or cold!) apple cider!

How will you be welcoming the return of fall?

  7. The patterns and textures are so perfect for this setting and this a beautifully styled table. I love seen tables using more muted colors. I love the traditional palette but something like this is always good for a change. Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story and we hope you will join us again next week.
