It all started at the grocery store. I was picking up lemons and limes to add to the iced tea that we love to drink in the summer. They were stacked next to several varieties of oranges.
The color combination was bold and oh so natural. Perfect for a summer table!
So I hurried home and set about designing a table featuring a citrus fruit centerpiece and dishes celebrating lemons, limes and oranges.
I have four of the salad plates, bought last summer on clearance. If you look closely you'll notice they're melamine. Perfect for summer tables, they travel between indoors and out.
I placed the citrus plates on deep green stoneware dinner plates atop bright yellow placemats.
Equally bright green napkins have a fun fringed edge.
Similar but not matching ceramic bowl and candlesticks complete the centerpiece. I used a yellow and white napkin as a base.
The candlesticks were a nice find at a consignment shop. They're compatible with a range of table themes, such as Russet and Olive and Falling for Apples.
At this point I had yellow and green well represented, but orange lagged behind. I wanted something light and summery, not one of the orange tones you find in the fall.
And in the pantry I found a bottle of orange soda that's made in France. It's light and effervescent, not similar to American sodas at all. So into the wine glasses it went!
The small glass bowls go readily with the rest of the place setting. I haven't a clue who the manufacturer is or how old they may be. I just know I like them!
A fun, summery table on a hot day!
