August has brought with it high temperatures and repeated thunderstorms. I've retreated inside once again to avoid the heat and rain and to set a table that feels refreshing and serene.
I started with the placemats and napkins that I bought a few years ago. I'm smitten with their soft, pastel colors and thought they would bring a visual coolness to the table.
For a centerpiece I used similar shades of faux flowers in a pretty crystal vase.
I added swirl-patterned glass plates that vary from aqua to turquoise, depending on the amount and angle of light they receive. Sometimes they're more on the blue side of aqua, sometimes on the green side of turquoise. Sort of chameleon plates! Watch the color change from one photo to another.
Besides the colors, what attracted me to the linens is that they're a modern take on a traditional design.
Picking up the turquoise from the table linens are the vintage candle holders found in antique malls (the pyramid-shaped ones were used in Blues with a Dash of Turquoise).
With the table set, you can't see the beautiful center design on the placemats.
Light levels were a challenge for this neophyte photographer....
I used two sets of salt and pepper shakers, both silver, one Art Deco, one classic in design.
Thank you for coming to Dinner at Eight!

DeleteRefreshing and serene is a great way to describe this beautiful setting. I love the plates and the colors here work very well together. Thank you for sharing with us at Celebrate Your Story and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra! I was pleased to discover that the plates went with more of my table linens than I expected, so you'll see more of them.
DeleteI love aqua. So gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie! I think the color aqua changes shades based on what it's near, which can be so fun.
