Hello and welcome! We are celebrating the arrival of spring with its vibrant bursts of color and large doses of sunshine. All in time for Easter! I'm taking those cues to set a colorful Easter table in blue and turquoise, accented by a kaleidoscope of vibrant shades.
Let's start with bold turquoise napkins held by bunny rings in sand-cast aluminum.
These are set upon a plate stack that begins with graceful rattan placemats that are perfect for warmer weather, then dinner plates rimmed in lighter turquoise which you may remember from a different style of table: Dreaming of Travel — Where Palms Beckon. These are topped by favorite white plates with a wonderful raised detail.
Underlying the tablescape is a beautiful jacquard tablecloth that is primarily a soft robin's egg blue, with sections of spring green and daffodil yellow bordering the hem. Although the latter colors don't appear in most of today's photos, the green is a lighter shade of that in the vase.
Standing tall in the center of the table is a vase full of luscious flowers in colorful spring shades. The vase is mid-century modern glass, found recently in an antique mall and discussed in The Thrill of Finding Beautiful Glassware. It's a pretty shade of green and the glass is fairly transparent — which highlights that the flowers are unabashedly faux. I often use pretty silk flowers for specific color combos or certain varieties not currently available in fresh flowers. Or, as in this case, when I've been too swamped to go flower shopping! Two bunches of carrots nestle comfortably alongside.
Framing the centerpiece are iconic hallmarks of Easter — bunnies, chicks and colored eggs. I think these fluffy chicks adorned with pastel bows and tiny nosegays are adorable! They're nestled in a bunny dish along with an assortment of speckled eggs.
On the opposite side is a mischievous Easter bunny with a cabbage full of carrots and more speckled eggs. The bunny wears a cheerfully bright purple satin bow!
I haven't been setting tables lately with my collection of figural salt and pepper shakers, but I couldn't resist using two sets of bunny shakers. The first set consists of an impish bunny with his oversized bunch of carrots.
The second set of bunnies appears to have raided the garden! I love the fine details on both sets.
Besides shots of color, varying textures bring more interest to the table. The intriguing weave of rattan in the placemats offsets the smooth porcelain of the dishes. The embossed edge of the salad plates is both tactile and visual. As an added note, the inner rim of the dinner plate's well is decorated with the emerging leaves of spring plants.
Other than the vase, the glassware on the table is primarily clear. The water glassses and the short 'sherbets' (to be used for fruit salads) have stocky stems in a pretty blue.
I've used two types of flutes for the mimosas — plain ones for the four placesettings on the sides, and cut crystal ones with gold rims for the two at the ends of the table.
The other items down the center of the table bring back memories of hunts for Easter baskets and eggs with my daughter.
Yet the placesettings, glassware and Art Deco knife rests share a more sophisticated spirit.
It's rather unfortunate that when the table is fully set, the jacquard design of the tablecloth is partially obscured. It features charming bunnies, birdnests, daffodils and tulips and other spring flowers.
I've also styled the buffet with adorable bunnies, pastel-colored birds and smaller speckled eggs re-used from A Feast for the Senses.
Thank you for joining me today!
Happy Easter!
