Dreaming of Travel — Where Palms Beckon

Staring at suitcases in the back of my closet, I began to dream of traveling to lands where the palm trees beckon.

Lands with beautiful vistas, delightful breezes, cooler temps and low humidity!

I gathered photos I had taken last September of our vacation in Hawaii for our anniversary,

Waikoloa, Hawaii

and used them as inspiration for a getaway tablescape!

 

I paired dinnerware that features a sailing ship on a bay edged with palm trees with a centerpiece of palms hand cut from steel.

 

Kannapali, Maui

Natural elements on the table echo the island inspiration, starting with woven rattan placemats (introduced in A Summer of Colors) and napkin rings,

 

joined by leis at each place setting that are made of polished kukui nuts on pretty satin ribbons.

They sit atop cream placemats covered with various palm trees that had been hidden away until our kitchen renovation gave me more storage.

 

Surrounding the central "islet" are pieces of sea glass suggesting a lagoon.

I set the table for a leisurely brunch, remembering mornings spent simply sitting and watching the clouds go by.

Hana, Maui

My favorite green wine stems stand tall on the table. Although I've used them often, as in Celtic Patterns for the Table or Song of Winter, I haven't chosen them for recent tablescapes.

  

I love the dreamy landscape on the salad plates, and have admired them for a long time. I decided to buy them on sale when I noticed they appeared to be on their way to being discontinued.

 

 

  

There were three choices for dinner plates in the original collection; I chose the design of small plants encircling the inner shoulder. I know the beautiful color will coordinate with other salad plates.

Various textures enhance the feeling of being transported far away.

Fingers crossed, I will return!
