Understated Pumpkins

I had every intention of going all out for pumpkins for this table, but life intervened. It has a way of doing that.

So instead of a bountiful pumpkin tablescape, I went in the direction of an understated table that includes pumpkins, but could work with any of the things that signify autumn, such as leaves or acorns.

Shades of taupe, gray and muted pumpkin orange are used throughout.

Textures abound in the chargers, the detail of the dinner plates, the smooth surface of my Dad's beer mugs, and in the velvet richness of the pumpkin.

Fall notes are sounded by the salad plates with watercolor paintings of colorful leaves, seen in last year's Russet and Olive tablescape.

I found these subtle metal candle holders which repeat the theme.

I deviated from the color scheme a bit by using these bold hand-crafted copper napkin holders that I bought last spring at my favorite craft council show.

The patina is different on each one.

A few of the pumpkins from my glass collection joined the velvet ones on the buffet.

May your fall tables be rich in color and texture!

  2. This is so lovely. I love all of the combinations you used. The textures really make it. Plus you left enough room for serving the food which is a plus.

    1. Thank you, Debra! I liked the play of textures in this tablescape too. We often have the serving pieces on the table, but they're not usually added until the food is ready. (And my cooking is not photo-ready, LOL!)

  4. I love your pumpkin display.... I purchased a few velvet ones this year too, orange, green, gold, and a deep purple and crimson. The last two might be nice into the Christmas holiday season.

  5. Beautiful table! The napkins work so well with the tablecloth which I absolutely love. Now I wish I had purchased the velvet pumpkins on sale at TJ Maxx. I'm sure they're gone by now and I'll have to be quicker next year. Thanks for linking up with us this week at Celebrate Your Story.
