Silver and Gold

Happy New Year!

Excitement mounts as the new year approaches! On New Year's Eve we'll raise our glasses to toast the coming year. Come see the table I've prepared.

Silver is the predominant color for the evening, grounded by the placemats from my sister. Stacked on top are platinum-edged, relatively plain (for me) white dinner plates and the fabulous salad plates my sister gave me for Christmas. Silver and gold became the theme for the table.

Overcast skies made it hard to capture the gold accents scattered across the plates.

The centerpiece is a variation of the one we had for Christmas Eve, shown here. The runner was replaced by two of the silver placements and the greenery, entwined by a silver ribbon, now supports a gold bowl, a gift from G's mother. The underside of the bowl is silver.

Contemporary crystal candlesticks stand with vintage silver holders on either side of the centerpiece. They are joined by faceted votives.

I couldn't decide which of the napkin rings I should use, so I consulted daughter J. She suggested using both, alternating around the table. One glitters, the other sparkles!

Elegant gold-rimmed champagne flutes sidle up to fun 1960's barware.

In some of the photos, you can catch glimpses of the Christmas decorations in the house. A gradual transition from Christmas designs to winter themes feels natural.

This year has been a good year overall, with much to celebrate. It has also seen incredibly sad moments, both personally and around the world. "For auld lang syne."

Here's to a new year, may it be full of good-will and joy!

  5. Love the silver and gold. I love the retro feel to your table. It is elegant and modern and yet, the 1960's barware, dotted salad plates and the bling from the crystal gem candleholders really give me a retro feel, like I am spending the evening at a up-scale cocktail bar. Now add some big band music and I am all set! Gorgeous tablescape! Perfect for ringing in the New Year.
