Flowers are blooming, trees are leafing out, birds are singing — a sure sign that spring's arrival is accelerating. Houses are being decorated with lighter colors and playful touches to echo spring's sunnier mood. Welcome to my table inspired by several Easter baskets that had belonged to my daughter which were stored and forgotten. I had kept these baskets because they were woven of natural materials dyed pretty colors.
I originally planned a table around the lovely plates that I often use for spring, which you may remember from Springing towards Easter Meadows. But then I discovered these beauties that I couldn't resist! This charming table is the result, one I think my nieces aged eight and ten would love.
The plates have a simple design, a watercolor painting of a realistic bunny wreathed in wildflowers. Its face and head are in focus with the remaining elements somewhat blurred, almost as though you're seeing it in the soft light of dawn. The dinner plates beneath them have a fluid scrolling pattern in turquoise and brown that looks organic.
By happy coincidence I stumbled on this tablecloth patterned with nearly identical wildflowers. I love the soft spring colors and the fluffle of bunnies scattered throughout them. There are eight in this small segment alone!
Soft pastel colors became the order of the day! How perfect are these cupcakes frosted in aquamarine and lime? And these M&Ms and peeps in yellow and pink? I confess I also splurged on napkins covered in bunnies in a saturated pink.
The basket teems with mini stuffed bunnies, chicks and lambs.
Outside the basket stands a bunny I've had for a number of years that could have posed for the plate's watercolor.
I chose these deeper plum-colored glasses because I thought the color would appeal to kids and their sturdy style would stand up to smaller hands.
I didn't put any candy inside the basket — there's plenty of sweets on the table and on the buffet (photo below).
As part of the centerpiece I chose a potted hyacinth whose fragrance is out of this world.
I love these thrifted aluminum candlesticks. Instead of candles they hold faux decorated eggs.
Younger bunnies cavort delightfully. I think they add to a perfectly charming table for kids.
On the buffet is another basket filled with cute baby animals and faux carrots.
They're eyeing the bowl full of chocolates!
Just for fun I thought I'd show you an oil painting that hangs in our living room next to the archway that leads to my study. I often forget it's there lol! The elaborate frame is rather outsized for the subject.
I hope you have a wonderful spring!
