A Table Blooms in Blue and Lavender

Where do you get inspiration for setting tables? While you can get ideas from all sorts of things, even unusual ones, today my tablescape began with a beautiful arrangement of flowers that my daughter sent me!

Let me walk you through all the table details, starting with the lovely centerpiece. Dark pink ranunculus dominate, accented by mini roses in a similar shade of pink, hydrangeas in blue and green, and purple/lavender blooms of  lisianthus, snapdragon and salvia.

A tablecloth covered in wisteria in shades of purple, lavender and blue is the perfect choice for the base. You may remember it from A Wisteria Garden Table where the emphasis was on its blue shades. Here the blue is featured in the chargers and the plates.

I selected my wedding china for the dinner plates — I've always loved its design of mottled blue rims bordered in gold that features delicate leaves. I then chose pretty white salad plates that display a large spray of blue and pink flowers on the left side,

and a smaller version on the right side. I only picked up four of these recently, but now wish I had gotten more. Ah well. . .

Pretty napkins with a crocheted edge that I often use accentuate the lavender shades on the table, while the angular flatware echoes the rectangular vase.

To add a vintage touch I paired two types of glassware: delicately etched clear wine goblets and water glasses in a smoky dark purple ombré. My husband inherited the clear goblets; I found the water glasses, along with matching juice glasses, on a return trip to one of the vintage/antique stores I wrote about in The Thrill of Finding Beautiful Glassware

I love the interesting shape of the chargers that I first used in Spring is a Feast for the Senses — they add just the right amount of flourish!

I'm pleased with my table blooming in blue and lavender!

  1. What a beautiful tablescape! I absolutely love the plates, glasses, and all the gorgeous flowers! I believe it's important to use these special settings in our everyday lives, and not just save them for special occasions. LIFE itself is a special occasion that should be celebrated daily! Great post!

    1. Thank you, Sandi! I have really gotten into patterned table linens. My peonies managed a few blooms this year -- too much shade I fear.
