A Table Setting in Blue and Yellow

Inspiration for tablescapes can come from all kinds of sources! Today I was inspired by a rather unlikely one — the morning news.

I've set a table in blue and yellow, the colors of the flag of Ukraine, to honor all the women there who may not be able to set their own. In the spirit of "making-do" I used only tableware and decor that I already had.

I've doubled vibrant placemats for more impact, then stacked dinner plates with a favorite trellis pattern, salad plates with a solid band of pale yellow accented with gold dots, and finally glass plates in a striking shade of blue.

You may remember the plates from other tables I've set: Thoughts of Pansies for a Spring Table, Daffodils and Irish Spring Colors, and Summer Flowers, Summer Table

The crystal stemware is bold and sturdy, the water glass more delicate and etched with flowers.

Solid blue napkins are paired with yellow and white ones in a pretty daisy pattern that echo both the water glasses and the centerpiece.

Since I don't have sunflowers, I've used faux rudbeckia flowers that are similar and just as sunny in the centerpiece.

On the buffet are the red, white and blue, confirming we stand with Ukraine, its people and its spirit.

Sláva Ukrayíni!

  3. Sandra, your blue and yellow table is so pretty and perfect for spring! Love the double placemats idea and also, that blue and yellow are the colors of the Ukrainian flag. How sweet to set a table honoring the Ukrainian women. The plate stack is lovely and the daisy napkins are also perfect for spring. Now if it (spring) would only hurry up and get here! Hope you have a wonderful evening!
