Summertime Blossoms on the Table

I'm delighted that you're joining me today for a tablescape that captures the feel of early summer starring summertime blossoms!

I found my inspiration in lovely vibrant linens that I purchased back in February when spring — not to mention summer! — seemed far away.

I loved the soft colors in a bold design that politely asked to be taken home. I knew they would be perfect for a table that would lead me from the light palette of spring mornings to the spirited range of hot summer days.

And I'm very excited to share it with you at the Summer Tablescape Blog Hop organized by Rita of Panoply and featuring 22 other amazing stylists! (All the info is listed at the end of the post.)

When I mentioned to my husband that I planned to have fresh flowers for this tablescape, he surprised me with beautiful bouquets filled with two dozen creamy white roses that he supplanted with other flowers in shades of pink and green to capture the hues of the tablecloth. How lucky am I?!

I placed them in a garden-themed cachepot for a spectacular centerpiece.

Now for the details! The tablecloth is covered in vines with fuchsia, blue, green, yellow and violet blossoms, edged in a formal repeating pattern. Butterflies in pinks and blues also flit about.

Next came glass cross-hatched chargers that can be used throughout the year, topped by blue dinner plates in a trellis pattern and my latest acquisition — white salad plates with a raised design.

The plate stack was framed by vintage stemware in an elegant pale blue that is etched in floral vines. These were found at several glass shows and antique shops. The original design with clear bowls debuted in 1936; the versions with colored bowls were made in the 70's.

I love how velvety the roses look in the photos! Since I took these they have opened more.

Matching napkins were placed atop the plates so that they wouldn't get lost against the tablecloth. I could have gone with napkins in a coordinating solid color or pattern, but I loved the exuberance of the repeated pattern, gathered in folds and slightly above the tablecloth. The napkins are simply held with ribbons, but bedecked with richly colored flowers. (What are they? Wine glass charms that I've had for awhile and never used.)

The simple design of our wedding silverware adds a classic counterpoint.

Down the center of the tablecloth run three large green medallions. I've used the middle one for the base of the centerpiece.

Now that we've begun to open our homes once again, it will be fun to share a summertime lunch or dinner!

Light and breezy, drenched in colors — I think this will be my go-to tablescape for June! If only the flowers would last all month long. . .

I thought I'd add an evening shot. The flowers seem to glow and the crystal glasses disperse the light from the chandelier.

  9. Absolutely gorgeous textiles, Sandra! Lucky you to have found them before the season. Your hubby did a wonderful gesture in shopping flowers for you, and you could not have chosen a better vessel - love that green cachepot! The patter of the tablecloth is really stunning, and your plate stack just perfect. Your collected glassware on the table is the perfect accessory to the color scheme. I agree with how you placed the napkins, and how smart to use the wine charms on the ribbon as napkin rings. This is a beautiful summer table, one that I would enjoy lingering over after dinner. Thank you for bringing your style to us in this summer blog hop. Happy summer!

  10. Sandra, that husband of yours is a keeper --- what a great guy! Ahhh roses. Love, love, love that tablecloth's butterfly pattern and riot of summer colors. Very striking! You did a wonderful job of styling all the different elements together. I particularly love the vintage, etched glassware. I have clear etched stemware from my great grandmother that I treasure. But, the blue is so unique and what a fabulous find! Husband with roses, vintage glassware --- your lucky girl you!

  13. Sandra, I love the garden feel of this table. Sheer delight! The linens are perfect, and I agree that the matching napkins were a great choice. Setting them atop the stack gives them presence. The vintage stems are lovely. I love colored glass, and these are delicate and special. I have a small collection of green vases and cache pots, so your beautiful textured pot caught my attention immediately. Filled with gorgeous roses and accent flowers completes the joy. The plate stack is simple and lets the linen shine. Perfect colors. I love the blue trellis pattern. Who makes this piece? Can you tell I'm smitten with your garden table? Thanks for brightening my day. Happy Summer!

    1. Thank you, Sarah, for your sweet comments! The cachepot was a find at a local antique store, though I think it's comparatively recent. It's fun to use since I can fit so many flowers into it. I like the trend of mixing linens, but I just thought the pattern was so striking I wanted it to be the table story. The blue trellis pattern is "Blue Skies" by Block China.

  15. Your table is lovely! I can't get past the blue etched glasses: I keep scrolling up to look at them because they are some of the prettiest I've ever seen! I prefer when napkins match tablecloths. I only have a couple of sets that do match, unfortunately. Your napkin rings are creative, and I like how your table seems to pop due to the color of the walls in your dining room. I really like that color. Pretty room!
