I have been super busy for the last month it seems, and it will be another week or so before I can show you the tablescape I've been thinking of. So I thought I'd share the last of the photos I took at the glass show last fall. The 44th Vintage and Collectible Glass Show was hosted in October by the Peach State Depression Glass Club. Links to the previous posts are listed below.
I called this 'All the Colors of the Rainbow' to convey the variety of colors and patterns that can be found in vintage glassware, and to reveal the myriad shapes that glass can take in the hands of skilled artisans.
Let's begin!
I love the swirls of color!
A three-dimensional vase in soft spring colors. This was quite tall.
Shaped vases in lovely pastel colors. Carved birds on the left, painted grapes on the right.
One of the hallmarks of vintage glassware is that it often comes in sets, meant to be displayed or used together. They make quite an impact, then and now.
Lucious grapes cover the lovely shape.
What particularly struck me about these pieces are that they all are in iridescent shades that add depth.
A lovely display of delicate perfume bottles — and one pink martini glass!
Both the shape and intricate design of this vase is striking. The color? Not so much. It was sort of a charcoal gray.
This is one of my favorite vase shapes to use when arranging flowers for a centerpiece. The flared rim allows the stems to bend gracefully. The design is well done, but the shades of gray paint on off-white glass wasn't a combination I would choose.
This was a gorgeous array of designs and hues. I really liked the lavender blooms on a paler lilac vase.
I thought this was spectacular! The beautiful birds encircled the entire vase. The vase was made of a soft white glass, creamier than the milk glass you often find.
If it seems that vases are the subjects of most of the photos in this installment, it's true! There were far more vases than I usually see at these shows, where stems, glasses, plates and pitchers predominate.
And for a change of pace, I'll leave you with these excellent examples of Roseville pottery. My mother had some Roseville pottery, but I've always been drawn to Rookwood pottery. Both potteries were located in Ohio.
If you enjoyed this sampling of the beautiful glass to be found at shows, antique stores and garage sales, I invite you to view Spring Colors in Vintage Glassware, All the Shades of Red and The Blues of Vintage Glassware.
