A Little Romance for Valentine's Day

In these strangest of times, I'm looking forward to a little romance for Valentine's Day! I've eagerly set a table for two that whispers 'love'.

“Love comforteth like sunshine after rain”   ~ William Shakespeare

Lovingly prepared foods, effervescent champagne, chocolate mousse for dessert. Feeling cozy in the midst of winter. A bit of poetry to set the mood. Romance is in the air!

I'm delighted to be joining a group of twenty stylists for a Valentine's Day tablescape hop. If you've "buzzed" over from Sarah's Hyacinths For The Soul, welcome! You'll find the links for all the Valentine tables at the end of this post.

There are reds and pinks, gold and crystal, and candlelight to delight the senses!

"Drink to me only with thine eyes, And I will pledge with mine; Or leave a kiss but in the cup, And I'll not look for wine."   ~ Ben Jonson

Water glasses etched with laurel leaves are paired with rose-colored flutes.

French champagne waits in a heavily cut crystal wine coaster.

Elegant gold-rimmed plates sit atop burnished gold chargers.

The centerpiece is simply two pairs of crystal candle sticks; one pair is clear, the other is topped by red cups.

They sit on a vibrant field of flowers, a gorgeous hand-embroidered scarf from the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City that my husband brought back for me.

"Love at the lips was touch as sweet as I could bear; And once that seemed too much; I lived on air"    ~ Robert Frost

Glass votives with red inset hearts on the buffet are a more obvious nod to Valentine's Day.

"And we loved with a love that was more than love"  ~ Edgar Allan Poe

I hope you add a little romance to your Valentine's Day!

    1. Thank you Ricki Jill! My husband's favorite color is red so I had to have one room in the house that reflects his color choice. He bought the red flutes as well!

    1. Thank you, Jenna, what lovely things to say! When I decided on the scarf as the base I wanted the other table elements to complement it, not compete. I thought elegant was the way to go.

  6. Sandra, melt my heart with the perfect poetry interspersed in your romantic table! Truly, a beautiful selection of some of the finest gems. Speaking of gems - your deeply cut crystal wine coaster, those rose-colored flutes, and that h/e scarf from Jerusalem City - so gorgeous! And is that a piece of candy on each plate, or is that a gem also? Looks like the latter. Beautiful table, Sandra. Thank you for sharing your keen eye for traditional beauty and style as a part of this and other tablescape hops.

    1. Thank you for your lovely comments, Rita! Romance and sparkle just go hand-in-hand with beautifully crafted items. On the plates are enameled place card holders laid sideways. Seemed silly on a table for two, but I've always thought they were pretty so I wanted to use them some way!

    1. Thanks, Debbee! I'm not sure I'm a fashionista, but it's striking against a black cocktail dress! My husband bought the flutes, as well as other shapes, from an antique dealer. They are 'Marchioness' imported by Ebeling & Reuss from an unspecified European maker, probably German or Czech, and come in several colors. Happy Valentine's Day!

Hand-embroidered......it is stunning and it sets your entire table into a unique and exquisite setting. 1. Thanks so much, Barbara! The scarf definitely determined the design and the color of the tablescape. I love using scarves and unusual fabrics on tables -- they come in a myriad of colors and patterns and generally cost no more than what a table runner or table topper would. And sometimes they are hiding in plain sight in the closet!
