September signals that fall is approaching, although we'll still have summer weather here during October. So I decided to start easing into fall with warm vibrant colors for a stunning tablescape!
Today I'm happily joining a group who are sharing their fall tablescapes. We're hosted by Rita from Panoply, and all the tables are linked at the bottom of this post. When you've finished here you'll want to check out their creative ideas!
I began with a new blue and white tablecloth. Blue and white is a timeless combination that lends itself to a wide range of table styles. I love the bold block-printed design and the contrasting band around the edge.
Copper punctuates the blue and white and brings the warmth of fall to the table. Metallic copper shines in the chargers, pitcher and napkin rings. I received the chargers as a gift from my daughter and I've been waiting for fall tables to use them. Navy blue napkins emphasize the darkest part of the blue spectrum and feel perfect for a fall table.
A different shade of blue is found in the glass vase with touches of white. Copper makes another appearance in the tall tapers in the candlesticks. I love the contrast of the delicately cut crystal candlesticks against the chunky glass vase.
In the centerpiece white mums are accented by coppery orange beefy pods and dainty flowers.
Realistic? Realistically faux!
The place settings begin with metal chargers, topped by vintage blue and white dinner plates and soup bowls perfect for heartier fall meals.
The center of the dishes' traditional design is similar to blue onion patterns, but they have a different rim design and lack the inner decorative band. I've collected various pieces of the china from antique malls and online sources for several years. You can see another tablescape styled with this pattern here.
Peeking beyond the flowers you can see that the buffet continues the theme of blue and white interspersed with copper.
The burnished copper bowl is set on a riser (otherwise known as books!), and holds the only standard acknowledgment of fall — a tiny white pumpkin. The same type of florals found on the table also grace the center, placed on matching napkins and a differently patterned tea towel.
To the left is a wonderfully portly soup tureen, with graceful handles and a delightful twist knob. I was lucky to find a silver ladle that fits the tureen just right. The ladle doesn't slide into it, nor does it tip over to the outside.
On the right is one of a pair of covered vegetable bowls found at a consignment store. Unfortunately I can't decipher the faded hallmark on the bottom.
The pattern is in the Imari style, with intricate botanicals in various blues and oranges. Gold traces the handle, the decorative bands and the rim on both the lid and the bowl. The center of the bowl repeats the pattern on the top of the lid.
The warmth of the deeper colors and the shine of the metallics are irresistibly linked to the feeling of fall in the air.
I'm not yet ready for the profusion of pumpkins, nor the deeper shades of oranges, rusts, crimsons and burgundies. But I am all for easing into fall!
I would like to thank Rita from Panoply for organizing this fall tablescape celebration. I hope that you'll visit each of my fellow stylists — you are sure to be inspired!
