First Tablescape of the Fall

I have decided that if I decorate for fall, it will come. . .

So disregarding the weather outside (95 degrees!!!), I've set my first table for fall. Since it's the first, I'm going to ease into the season with soft colors.

I started with a tablecloth with a cream background and florals in goldenrod, pale orange and a color that registers somewhere between green and gray.

For the centerpiece I chose faux flowers in similar colors.

I added hand-crafted salt cellars that I first told you about in Tulips for Easter and then used Late Spring with Toulouse.

The dinner plates are a dark orange, ones that I frequently use in the fall. Then I layered vintage salad plates that have a delicate scroll on the verge and a calligraphic fleur-de-lis in the center.

This is the other half of the salt cellar pair.

In among the flowers are pumpkins in various colors. They bring a different texture to the arrangement and help support the flowers in the container.

The napkins are doubled with an inner napkin that is the same orange yellow found in the floral tablecloth and napkins. These were found three years later in a different store from a different manufacturer. To have them in the exact matching shade is a sign they were meant to be together!

From above you can see that the container has a long rectangular shape.

The container was found in an antique mall. I think it's tin, with embossed designs all around. I love the organic feel of the designs. You can't quite see it in the photos, but the scallop edge is taller in the center.

Clear wine and water glasses allow the other elements to be the focus.

Dark wood napkin rings bring a fall earthiness.

In the background sit the birds from Tropical Birds and Cookies. I need to find them a home until next summer when they'll return to the deck!

    1. Thank you, Pam! I had always used smaller containers or round vases so this container was more of a challenge since it's both long and not very deep. I hear cooler weather is on the way!

    1. Thank you, Katie! I was really pleased with this one! We don't have winter (thankfully) but fall has definitely arrived. Cooler temperatures and the trees are beginning to change colors. And glorious rain! This will really help the drought conditions in North Georgia.

  10. So very pretty! Love your centerpiece! GREAT table for fall. You've inspired me to get my fall decor bin down. It's been so hot in So. CA, I still feel like it's summer, but it is time to get busy for autumn!

    1. Thank you, Kim! I'm usually drawn to brighter colors but I loved the way these linens looked. The salad plates have made a few appearances since I found them in the dusty box at the antique mall. They looked completely different in https://cometodinnerat8.blogspot.com/2020/08/summer-tables-dreaming-of-paris.html.
