Springing towards Easter Meadows

I don't know about you, but we seem to be bounding, leaping, hopping, gamboling and springing towards Easter! With it coming later this year, you wouldn't think that would be the case!

We have been invited to Easter lunch by my husband's cousin. Since Miss J won't be able to come with us (heavy course load this semester), she requested that we have a small dinner with her favorite foods. That's all it took for me to set a pretty table for us.

I don't know how many times I went to the store for these plates, only to decide I didn't really need them. But the bunnies proved irresistible, and when they went on sale last year, well, I got the salad plates.

There are four designs, each featuring cute, fluffy bunnies, pretty meadow flowers, spring-green grass and butterflies.

The scenes on the plates inspired the other elements on the table. The stiff string place mats, that are totally impractical for protecting the underlying tablecloth, remind me of tall meadow grasses.

The centerpiece is taken from the plates as well, with a bunny settling down in a nest of sorts. Centerpiece lilacs (faux, because this is Georgia where lilacs won't grow) and lavender napkins amplify the purple flowers on the plates and tablecloth. I've probably made quite the faux pas by using a tablecloth that coordinates with the plates, but it was equally charming!

Sparkle is provided by gold flatware that belonged to Greg's mother and vintage brass napkin rings bought for a song at an antique mall.

Speckled eggs in green Depression glass bowls,

and vintage amethyst water glasses (used here and here) bring color to the table and refract the sunlight prettily.

Daylight savings time and ever longer daylight hours has changed the way tables photograph in what I call the garden room. The room is on the lower level and opens directly onto the patio and garden. The large oak trees that will shade it heavily throughout the summer have not yet leafed out. So I was happy to take advantage of the light!

I added a simple combination of green candlesticks and faux flowers to the sideboard next to the table.

Purples and greens make a wonderful spring pairing.

Bunnies from the meadows (seen previously in Bunnies and Blossoms) signify spring has arrived.

Happy Easter!

  2. So glad to see this table because I just bought the bunny plates and matching cups, My dear neighbor had gifted me with a mug so It had to get some friends! I love your use of color and pattern in this table. Is this the floral meadow matching tablecloth? Thanks for sharing your beautiful table!

    1. Thank you, Ramona! I can easily see the bunnies multiplying on my table! Yes, it's the floral meadow tablecloth. The center design is covered by the centerpiece and place settings, but the border is what I really like about the cloth. I wanted to include a photo of the border, but even after ironing it the border is the most wrinkled. It's going off to the cleaners for a good pressing.
