Spring Tablescape with Azaleas and Birds

With sunlight streaming into the house I wanted to set a spring tablescape that would mirror the view outside our windows -- azaleas bursting in bloom...

...and birds building nests.

I started with a linen tablecloth that is the color of a lot of the bare branches that still dominate our yard, then began the place settings with rattan chargers which have the same texture as branches.

I cut stems from three types of azaleas in our yard: 'Snow', 'Coral Bells' and a native azalea.

Blues and shades of aqua in the plates, glassware and candles play off the pinks and whites of the flowers.

Bird nests are repeated in the design of the luncheon-sized plates, that were also used in other spring tables here and here.

The native azalea blossoms begin dark pink and open to paler pinks with feathery stamens. The entire shrub is more open and airy.

Another pair of porcelain birds are lining their nest with moss and blossoms.

I love the soft blue of the Depression glassware, with its delicate etchings.

I added a few petite Narcissus 'Thalia', one of the smallest daffodils, to the vase of azaleas.

I always enjoy setting spring tables with these dishes. They wowed me the minute I saw them! I love their color, the inclusion of butterflies, and their branch-like rims.

When I set tables in the dining room, I like to carry the design onto the buffet. I've filled two silver bowls with more of the azaleas.

A mossy nest and speckled eggs fill a basket. Faux tulips stand behind it, to add some height.

A lovely piece from my collection has more birds alighting on a sturdy branch.

With nature as inspiration, setting a table to celebrate spring can be as easy as using the blooms from your yard!

    1. Thank you, Kathy! I fell for the glassware when I first saw it at the annual glass show in Marietta. It was made in several shades, but the blue is my favorite (followed by the yellow/topaz).
