Charcuterie Boards Fit for Westeros

Are you a fan of Game of Thrones? I hadn't paid attention to it for the first few years, then got caught up in it when I was laid up with a broken ankle and went into general TV binge watching! I think the story and characters are engrossing, with multiple twists and turns in the plot lines. I have not read the books, so each episode is new and surprising. And I love, love the music!

As we waited for the season premiere, Greg and I decided to set up charcuterie boards fit for any Westeros table! For the theme, we looked no further than dragons.

There's a tiny cast silver dragon on the board above, shared with a selection of pancetta, salami and prosciutto. His mate can be found on another board.

We set up our Westeros charcuterie on our new island, luxuriating in the amount of space we have compared to our previous two-level island. I used another of Greg's dragons from his collection for a focal point in front of a candelabra. You may remember the dragon on an earlier table

Irish cheddar is paired with a soft cheese wrapped in more prosciutto. I've presented the food on several artisan-made boards purchased at various craft shows.

To bring color to the spread, I partnered soft blue napkins with Bordallo Pinheiro plates that Greg surprised me with as we waited in an antique mall Sunday for the storms to pass over.

Smoked Wisconsin cheddar, Spanish Manchego and chunky French bread. I seem to be drawn to chevron-patterned boards!

Cast goblets entwined with dragons definitely say we're in Westeros! They're for wine or possibly hard cider since their bowls are a generous size. Greg found these many years ago at craft fairs.

Blueberries and strawberries in a silver bowl bring color to the other side.

I love the detail on these! Do you think the Mother of Dragons would approve?

A regal purple decanter delivers sparkle and elegance.

Mixing materials, textures and craftmanship provides a varied sensory experience.

The direwolves know they'll get tidbits, lol!

We had fun arranging a thematic charcuterie spread for ourselves — Greg in charge of the food and drink, me handling the styling — with the look and feel of the lands of A Song of Ice and Fire.

With just minor changes to the accessories, this could work for any theme, TV inspired or not!

Thanks for visiting!

    1. Thanks, Myrna! Grapes would have been good, but I just went with what we had in the fridge. The decanter is in a European style called cut-to-clear.
