A Bit of Whimsy at the End of Summer

Despite the temps pushing 90 (and the humidity levels right up there, too), all the signs point to the end of summer. Or at least the calendar does! I've set a table to begin the transition at our house.

I started with this pretty runner and complementary napkins given to me by my sister for my birthday. (Thanks again!) The large flowers are in teal and summer green on a cream and tan background. The flowers, stems and leaves are embroidered, giving the runner a dimensional quality.

To continue with the teal color, but in a lighter shade, I chose aqua glass plates which I featured recently in A Pastel Table with Turquoise Accents. The same plates paired with different linens, stemware and flatware makes for a totally different experience.

This time I set the plates on silver chargers with a wonderful wavy edge. Iced tea spoons and glasses are a given this time of year.

The wine glasses repeat the greens of the table runner. I use these wine glasses often because I like their versatility, as seen here and here. And because greens and blues are my favorite colorways! (As if you hadn't guessed!!)

I like the play of texture on the napkin trim, the beads of the rings, and the detail on the flatware. Together with the embroidery on the runner they add subtle interest.

In the center I've placed simple pillar candles in clear hurricanes. That wasn't quite enough for a centerpiece, however, so I tried adding several things between the candles. Flowers competed with the embroidered ones and a pot of small green plants was just okay.

From the deck I retrieved the perfect bit of whimsy for an end-of-summer table. And in gorgeous teal!

Thanks for coming to Dinner at Eight!
