Thanksgiving in Blue and Gold

I love all the shades of blue and you'll find them throughout our home in painted walls, furniture, and decor. So of course Thanksgiving this year will be celebrated with blue and gold.

The dining room faces east and gets morning sun. Which is beautiful to experience but difficult to take tablescape photos with!

I started with a pale yellow tablecloth and napkins that I've had forever (or at least they predate the current table which it doesn't quite fit).

Our wedding china which I still love sits atop golden chargers, accompanied by the silverware we chose then. For an unexpected shot of blue, I've added vintage glass plates in a deep cobalt blue.

For a centerpiece I chose a fabulous pheasant tureen that  I use frequently throughout autumn. Its  colors are fall colors, bold and vibrant.

On either side are pheasant candle holders and shapely amber votives. I've had the pheasants for about twenty years and the votives for ten or so.

I enjoy using beautiful stemware that sparkles during dinner. The play of light on crystal brightens the table and says that this is a celebration.

We found the hock stems at an antique mall recently. They had never been used (they still sported their manufacturer's labels) and were made in East Germany. I love the way the stem was hand cut and faceted, and the cut-to-clear grapes and vines seemed appropriate for an autumn harvest dinner.

Did you ever pass by something over and over until it catches your eye and you've found something new to collect? That's how it is with me and salt cellars, a recently acquired obsession. With their cobalt glass bowls these two had to be on the table.

An array of pumpkins sits on the buffet, sourced at different times and in different places.

You can view them on last year's table here.

Velvet pumpkins have moved into the foyer. In a happy coincidence, they repeat the colors in the tapestry.

I love the lines and detailing of the chest made in France. One of those things Greg couldn't pass up!

  1. Gorgeous table in blue and gold. So formal and so stunning. Love the Fitz and Floyd pieces, I have several from the Huntington collection and have them out right now. Your wedding china is beautiful on the gold charger and the stemware is just elegant.

    1. Thanks so much, Judy! Part of tablescaping that I love is that you can go as formal or as casual as you like. I like to do both, and everything in between!

  2. This is a gorgeous table setting! I love this. It reminded me of how I do my table. I use colored red glass bowls and glasses on our table for the holidays since my decor is mostly red. I LOVE colored glass as a pop of color with the china! Your cobalt blue is striking with your decor in the background. Gorgeous! Saw your post at the amaze me monday party! pinned:)

    1. Oh, I would love to see your table done with reds! I bet it's beautiful. Lovely colors is one reason I've been seeking vintage glass lately. When mixed with a variety of tableware it can look very modern. Thanks so much for visiting and pinning!
