Falls Park on the Reedy

Public gardens come in a variety of sizes and types, from a pocket garden at a busy intersection to grand ones such as New York's Central Park. Greenville, South Carolina, has the lovely Falls Park on the Reedy in the heart of the city.

Once an area of various industries, houses and roads, the Falls of the Reedy River were reclaimed and transformed into a public park.

A pedestrian bridge crosses the river.

Welcoming paths meander along the river, bordered by plantings.

The park has one of the most amazing trees I have ever seen. Still standing, still thriving...

We had gone to experience totality and viewed it from another park outside the city.

The 'diamond ring' effect.

Neither of us had been to Greenville before and we thoroughly enjoyed our get-away weekend!

  2. What a glorious treasure right in the heart of downtown. I have been through Greenville on the way to Georgia, but the next trip I may have to stop and spend some time here. Loved your photos - and what a great tree!
