Russet and Olive

Tired of take-out suppers, we decided on a late Sunday lunch with friends. With the time change and darkness coming sooner, it ended up being more of an early dinner!

I built the table around these watercolor leaf plates that I was smitten with a few months ago and shared in my Casual Fall Setting.

The colors of the tablecloth amplified the russets and olives in the plates, and added golden highlights. Although the paisley design of the the cloth is not iconic for autumn, its colors reflect the scene outside, since leaves are finally changing colors in North Georgia.

The leaves in the centerpiece spill onto the salad plates and are echoed in the napkin rings. Nandina leaves bring a touch of red.

This lovely silverplated bowl has a striking base. It contrasts nicely with both the contemporary salad plates and more traditional dinner plates. The reflective surface scatters light in the center of the table and mirrors the underlying cloth. Three small pumpkins are nestled in the bowl, with magnolia, Japanese maple and nandina leaves from the garden tucked here and there.

The olive hues of the wine glasses and napkins bring out the greens in the tablecloth. I particularly like how the ceramic candlesticks repeat both the color and the organic shapes of the natural leaves. The candles, plates and pumpkins replay the off-white background color of the tablecloth.

Thank you for coming to dinner at eight!
