The Greens of March: Decor in the Entry and Kitchen

Rather than setting a table this week, I decided to refresh the decor on the chest in the entry and in the stemware cabinet in the kitchen. I usually change the tableau in the foyer as the seasons change. Spring is beginning to stir, heralded by flowering bulbs.

My daffodils are still flowering, but the hyacinths are having a hard time of it in the heavy rains and high winds we've been having. So I've used silk flowers instead to anchor the center.

To the left is a cast bronze horse in the Tang Dynasty style. I've had this for a long time and still love the verdigris of the bronze. So many shades of green can be found for spring decor! There's various shades of green in the tapestry on the wall.

On the right are Waterford crystal candlesticks, a nod to St. Patrick's Day along with the brass shamrock.

The ceramic container evokes garden trellises. The bottom reads 'Made in Portugal' but provides no further information.

I have been enjoying decorating the bottom shelf of the stemware cabinet since our kitchen renovation. I've added green plates with Celtic designs and majolica plates with stylized flowers.

I placed a stained glass shamrock next to a pair of vintage green iced tea glasses I won as a door prize at the glass show I attend each year.

And of course I had to include this mischievous leprechaun!

I couldn't close this post without sharing a few more photos of Ireland. Above is Blarney Castle; below is the coast southwest of Cork.

I hope your March is green!

  2. Sandra, I love your spring refresh in the entry with the green vase filled with spring flowers. Doesn’t it lift your spirits to see blooms after the gray of winter? The leprechaun is too cute! We visited Ireland in 2015, such a beautiful country. Happy Thursday!

    1. Thanks, Pam! Flowers are blooming everywhere which is such a happy sight. I hope we don't get one of those dreaded cold snaps/snow events we've had in March in the past. I'd hate to see it zap the blooms. Ireland was gorgeous and its people were so open and friendly.

  6. Love how you've redone your buffet here in the entry for spring! I love tapestries and they always make me feel warm and cozy, Sandra!! Your Chinese horse is beautiful and reminds me of the one that was often seen on The Brady Bunch show way back when. <3 Thank you for sharing last week at Share Your Style.

    Happy spring to you,
    Barb :)

    1. Thank you, Barb! I enjoy the intricate scenes on tapestries, and the chance to play off all the colors in them. I admit to having a small (sort of, lol!) collection of horses and they're found prancing all over the house.
