As anyone who knows me could tell you, I am totally entranced by the Olympics, particularly those held in the winter. I am astounded by the athletes' skill and touch of dare-devil. I love to watch the lesser-known sports that they feature. And the mountain scenery is just awesome! So for these two weeks, you can find me in front of the TV.
My husband does not share my enthusiasm, although he graciously attended the Summer Olympics with me that were held in Atlanta in 1996. I'll have to work on persuading him to attend a Winter Olympics, since it's invariably held where it's cold!
So I was touched when Greg bought me cookies to enjoy while watching them (and he was happily out of town on business, lol!) The small silver tray was given to us as a house-warming gift many years ago and adds a special touch.
Hot tea and yummy – and very blue! – cookies called out for a proper setting. Damask napkins serve as the base, with a starched cut-work napkin for catching crumbs.
A Christmas cactus that has been steadily blooming for two months brings a shot of red to the tea table, picking up on one of the colors in the plates.
Greg gave me this wonderful cast iron tea pot several years ago. Its dragonfly and leaves design is echoed in the trivet underneath.
The crane and flowers pattern on the china is a nod towards the Asian location of this year's Olympics.
The ceramic horse is a lamp from the 1950's-60's, described more in this previous post.
I'm all set for week 2!

How wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tammy, I'm delighted you came to visit!
DeleteI love watching the ice skating and skiing events in particular. We were supposed to hit the slopes with my brother-in-laws and their wives this weekend, but it hit the 70's this week - in Pittsburgh for goodness sake! In February?! So we ladies will be in the spa instead and going to high afternoon tea. I guess that's a pretty good alternative...
ReplyDeleteDebbee, a trip to the spa and high tea sounds great! I love to watch the Olympics, and I envy their skill, but I was born a klutz. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous table!Your china teaset is very elegant.I love Christmas flowers, here we called them May flowers. That color was perfect with your decoration with blue touchs. How pleasure visiting you!Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you! How funny the same flowers have such different names! I've loved the china for a long time and was very lucky to find it. I'm so glad you came by!
DeleteHow wonderful to have your link and share that very Asian teapot and even the china looked very Asian too. Thanks for sharing your lovely table and teatime for the Olympics! Clever!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bernideen! I needed some strong tea today with all the excitement at the speed skating rink! I've enjoyed your tea parties.
DeleteYou get a gold medal for a lovely tea time!
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you, Margie! I've never gotten a gold medal!
DeleteSandra, what a lovely way to enjoy the Olympics! I drink lots of loose leaf black tea every day and really like your Wedgwood and the cast-iron teapot.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jean! I drink hot tea year-round and enjoy treating myself to a pretty presentation -- makes the tea seem special. My favorite is black tea as well, although I enjoy green tea with (or after) dinner.
DeleteVery pretty table Sandra
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! So glad you stopped by!
DeleteHow charming! I love all of your tea things, that darling teapot in particular. Thanks for sharing. I could go for a cup of tea and one of those cookies right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pattie! I really like that the tea pot has a strainer that fits into the top so you don't have to have a separate infuser.
DeleteYour teapot looks like some of the ones I have seen from Japan. They are so lovely and I really like your china pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara! I love the grace that Japanese tea kettles have. We almost chose the Kutani Crane pattern for our wedding china but ultimately went with Imperial Lapis.
DeleteYou had the best seat in the house and I love your table for one. Thank you for sharing with us at Celebrate Your Story and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra! Cookies and Olympics - a bit of heaven for 2 weeks!
