A Table for St. Patrick's Day

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? We did every year when daughter J was small. She loved leprechauns and the mischief they would cause around the house. Teenage J -- not so much!

So it has been several years since I decorated for St. Patrick's Day. This weekend J will be home from college, providing the perfect excuse to celebrate!

The stained glass shamrock welcomes the sun.

Shades of green, gold and white, the colors of the Irish flag, set the theme. A mint green cloth covers the table, topped with gold chargers. Matching napkins cradle yellow and white ones, both held by a gold beaded napkin ring (also seen at another celebration).

I thought a transitional table setting that straddled memories and current experiences would be just the thing! I dove into the storage box and rediscovered a smiling leprechaun. . .

and a couple of convivial stuffed bears wearing and carrying shamrocks.

And for a design that acknowledges today, a tall vase (actually a hurricane) showcases two varieties of faux tulips, held in place by pretty lime paper.

They're joined by white candles in brass holders.

Place settings are composed of our everyday dishes which have a trellis pattern on the rims, first seen in A Casual Fall Setting, and figural salad plates with three different flower designs. All green of course! Shamrocks fill the desert bowls (to confine the glitter!)

My dad's vintage glasses from the 1960's will be filled with the Guinness beer chilling in the fridge.

Join us for a St. Patrick's dinner!

"May the road rise up to meet you..."

  2. Very pretty! I love St. Patrick's Day. My hubby's birthday is the 13th and we always celebrated his birthday on St. Patrick's Day. He loved corned beef! I continue the tradition. Love the bears! I think I have at least one green bear -- thanks for the idea. The tulips look so real! Happy Monday and Happy St. Patrick's Day. I bet your daughter enjoyed the celebration.

    1. I love corned beef too! My Irish grandmother always cooked it with new potatoes instead of cabbage - love it that way. Don't you think the faux flowers they make now are fabulous? Enjoy your St. Pat's celebration.

  15. I know what you mean about decorating more when the kids are young. My two sons are fully grown and out of the house. It's harder to get motivated to do things without them. I really enjoyed your table. The tulips alone are fantastic. Loved the Bordallo Pinheiro plates, and those Beanie Babies made me smile! Enjoy your daughter when she comes and celebrate to the max!
