A Winter's Song

At the tail end of February, winter is making a slow retreat. The first perennials have begun to flower, but the trees remain gray or brown, leaves still carefully tucked away.

Looking out my window, watching birds flit among the branches, I thought of these dishes. They'll be the perfect setting for a casual lunch with friends and family.

I layered two table runners across the table, letting the deep color of the table reference the mulched beds across the patio.

Textural chargers remind me of the branches outside our doors.

Birds alight on the twigs holding the doubled napkins - green for the cypresses, beige for the last of the oak leaves.

Within the bird nests found at an antique mall are simple white candles.

For a centerpiece, I used a sculptural leaf bowl that sits on the patio in the summer, with twiggy balls that light up with a soft glow. Faux flowers are tucked into the centerpiece and on the chargers.

These salt and pepper mills are handcrafted of 27 different types of wood! We bought these at a juried craft show held annually in Atlanta. The photos don't do justice to how gorgeous they are in person!

I've set out simple wine goblets and cut crystal water glasses that we've had so long I can't remember their source.

We're ready for an easy lunch, perhaps a yummy salad.

Thanks for visiting!

    1. We had such a hard time choosing which salt and pepper mills to buy. Each one is so unique! And I found the candlesticks when I wasn't looking for any! Isn't that always the way?
