It's summertime! Time to leave the dark moody colors of winter far behind and embrace an explosion of summer colors! Whether you choose pastel or bold colors or any combination with white, summer tables revel in color.
At least that's my take on how to set a table in summer! Today I'm joining a wonderful group of stylists who'll inspire you with the variety of their designs celebrating this season. We've been organized by Rita of Panoply in a summer tablescape blog hop — all twenty participants are listed at the end of this post.
I've based my table on turquoise with a large dose of white to set the color off. Turquoise is in the napkins and pillar candles and infuses the vintage glassware. White is in the jacquard table runner, the dinner plates and as the background for the salad plates.
Decoratively woven rattan placemats bring carefree summer texture and are a nice counterpoint to the bone china salad plates. The plates feature an abundance of flowers that are mostly in shades of pink, though there are lilac, peach and soft golden flowers as well.
I'm using enamel and metal napkin rings shaped like dogwood blossoms. I bought them pre-pandemic but haven't used them before, primarily because I only bought four of them. (I know, I know, what was I thinking!?!) Perhaps I can find some more . . . hmmm.
I've used my wedding silverware countless times — proof you can use beautiful flatware on any style of table.
I love the form and size of the iced tea glasses! Generous, yet easy to hold. The etched design reminds me of dandelions gone to seed. They were a wonderful find, hidden in the far back of a large antique mall.
I gathered two bunches of flowers at the grocery. One might have been
enough, but I wanted the exuberance of a summer flower garden.
I love using this china pattern, evocative of a summer border with butterflies flitting about.
I love using this china pattern, evocative of a summer border with butterflies flitting about.
For the settings at either end of the table I chose gold fern-like napkin rings. They feel a bit more formal than those with dogwood blossoms, and they repeat the gold edging on the plates.
I really love these bold colors that have similar blossom shapes! Their fragrances are rather subtle though.
I've added an unusual salt cellar, made of a real shell rimmed with sterling silver. Surprisingly the artisan was selling these in the midst of the huge Scott Antique Market.
I'm a fan of using lots of white with summer colors. White items add the light and bright of summer sunshine to the mix.
Colorful summer tables can be both easy and elegant!

Lovey table, those vintage water glasses are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carole! I need to research their pattern now.
DeleteSandra your table is lovely...love the turquoise touches and the abundance of flowers. I do the same thing (buying 4 of something and then regretting not getting at least 6) However, I tend to lean toward more intimate gatherings and 4 guests is usually about all I can deal with at one time. LOL So all is well. It is always a pleasure to table hop with you...Hugs and Blessings. Enjoy your Summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kari! We usually have smaller groups as well, but when there are more I'm left scrambling for a nice set or using my old tried-and-true napkin rings which I'm getting rather tired of.
DeleteSandra, very pretty china pattern! Your floral centerpiece is beautiful and I love that you used the turquoise napkins with your placesetting - a nice bright compliment for summer!! I hope you have a wonderful summer!
ReplyDeleteSorry - the above Anonymous post is from me, Ann!!
DeleteThank you, Ann! I love all the shades of blue and blue-green, but there's something about turquoise that says 'summer' more than any other!
DeleteSandra, your tables never disappoint. This is so lovely friend! Thank you for sharing at the Home Imagined party. XO- MaryJo
ReplyDeleteThanks, MaryJo, how sweet of you to say!
DeleteYour china is so pretty and the flatware is unique! The aqua touches send the feeling of summer. Well done, Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Patti! I still swoon over the flatware even after all these years!
DeleteSandra, I am a fan of turquoise! It definitely speaks of summer. The grocery store flowers are stunning and offer lovely colors of summer as do the pretty floral salad plates. The iced tea glasses with their beautiful etching are gorgeous and I have stemware envy. It is always a pleasure to hop with you. Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Pam! Turquoise really comes into its own in summer doesn't it? I think it's always such a cheerful color. I was amazed there were 12 of them, all in great condition. Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteYour table is so elegant. The centerpiece complements the plates so prettily! I also like a few of your delicate elements, like the salt cellar (gorgeous!) and the napkin rings. I also like the woven placemats because they are reminiscent of summer. It's neat how your napkins, glasses, and candles in the hurricane lanterns are all the same gorgeous shade of turquoise. Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ricki! I really liked the way this table evolved and I've wanted to use that salt cellar since I got it last summer.
DeleteSandra, your table is so lovely and elegant! I love turquoise and it looks fabulous paired with the white. The flowers are gorgeous and bring in all the colors of summer, as do the lovely china salad plates with the pretty butterflies. But my heart is going thumpety-thump over those etched ice tea glasses - they are stunning and what a great find! It was lovely hopping with you and I hope you have a great summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim! Turquoise and white seems so cheerfully fresh. I'm definitely going to have to research what company made the glassware and their pattern name. Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteSandra, a lovely welcome to summer tablescape. Love the turquoise touches. The flowers look so pretty and yes, two bunches really pop! The etched ice tea goblets are beautiful. The plates are beautiful with the pretty butterflies on top of the woven placemats.. I hope you find more napkin rings. The salt cellar is an amazing find with it's lovely shell rimmed with sterling silver. Happy summer Sandra.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! After this week's hop I've been inspired to add more table decor, so I'm crossing my fingers for the napkin ring quest!
DeleteSandra, beautiful, elegant details from the colorful bouquet to the touches of turquoise, and the lovely floral plates. The shell salt edged in sterling is stunning. I would love one of those on my table. Thanks for sharing this pretty, summer setting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah! I love to find interesting pieces for my tables, particularly when they're as unique as this salt cellar. When I was talking with the man who had crafted it, he said he'd only made a few because people didn't seem interested -- I guess he hadn't run into any tablescapers!

ReplyDeleteSandra, I love the florabundance of your bouquet as a centerpiece for your summer table! The rattan mats look like flower petals framing your pretty Wedgwood 'Charnwood' plates. I love the butterfly details and bee buzzing around the border of the blooms! Love the pretty details on your delicate turquoise stems, they are reminiscent of dandelion seed heads. Such a pretty shell salt cellar too! It’s been years since I’ve visited Scott Antique Market, I always wished I was driving a U-Haul when I had a chance to shop there. 😊 It’s always a treat to join you at the table and hop with you again, Happy Summer! ♥
Mary, thanks so much for your lovely comments! I hadn't noticed the rattan placemats resembled flower petals -- thanks for noticing that! It's been a great tablescape hop. Have a wonderful week!
DeleteVisions of Tiffany come to mind with my first look of your vibrant table, Sandra. I love the turquoise, especially your glassware! Definitely agree with the comment of the etching resembling dandelions gone to seed. The salt cellar is a unique find (I'm totally jealous over your visit to Scott's, a bucket list destination for me). Beautiful color all around the table with your flowers on the plates and the bouquets set. Thank you for celebrating summer with our group in this blog hop. Happy summer to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rita! I love to use unique pieces on tables. Even if I can't think of a way when I initially find them sooner or later I have an "ah ha!" moment. I guess I'm spoiled by being able to visit Scott's regularly -- it's about an hour's drive. Hope you have a wonderful week!
DeleteSandra, your flower arrangement is absolutely stunning. It definitely has the look of a summer garden. Your dishes and glassware are perfect for a summer table.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol! The flowers themselves were pretty, but combining so many was the secret!
DeleteSandra, I am very fond of turquoise! Your napkins, candles and goblets highlight your pretty floral plates. The lovely mixed floral arrangement speaks summer.
ReplyDeleteI love love the salt cellar. What a sweet reminder of Scott's Antique Market. I used to go frequently but haven't been now in years. I would love to go because it is always fun.
Nice hoping again with you. Happy June!
Thank you, Bonnie! Something about the vibrancy of turquoise just sets the summer mood for me. Scott's is fun -- and always tiring to see so much.
Deletehi Sandra, you had me at turquoise, my very favorite color! I love the way you used it to tie your whole table together! The flower arrangement is soo pretty, I love that it's so full of color! The stemware is gorgeous, very special indeed. I love your elegant wedding silverware and the dogwood blossom napkin rings are adorable! Your table feels like a happy Summer setting!

DeleteVery Pretty!!! Love the flowers in such abundance, great echo for the dishes. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandi! There's nothing quite like fresh flowers to set the mood!
DeleteSandra, such a pretty table with the beautiful turquoise pops of color that are perfect for the summer season! Those ice tea glasses are absolutely fabulous -- what a great find and how wonderful they look with the napkins and candles. The color actually reminds me of Tiffany Blue, and would look great for a Breakfast at Tiffany's table too. Happy summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbee, now you've got me thinking of a Tiffany's table! I might have to hunt down the movie for inspiration, hmmmm.
DeleteLove this feminine table, Sandra! And those flowers! So bright and summery! Thanks for sharing at Tuesday Turn About! You will be one of my features this week! Pinned!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Julie!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this!
DeleteSandra, I love your mix of bold colors paired with the delicate items on your table such as your elegant floral china plates and antique etched stemware. And, of course, I agree, elegant flatware can provide beauty to any tablescape theme. Your use of the tranquil, turquoise color is beautifully suited to the elegance and yet boldness of your tablescape. I absolutely love your fresh brightly colored flowers. A perfect choice. ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely comments! I wasn't sure at first what plates to use with the fresh flowers but was glad to see how well the pastel pinks and lavenders responded to their bolder colors.
