A Summer of Colors

It's summertime! Time to leave the dark moody colors of winter far behind and embrace an explosion of summer colors! Whether you choose pastel or bold colors or any combination with white, summer tables revel in color.

At least that's my take on how to set a table in summer! Today I'm joining a wonderful group of stylists who'll inspire you with the variety of their designs celebrating this season. We've been organized by Rita of Panoply in a summer tablescape blog hop — all twenty participants are listed at the end of this post.

I've based my table on turquoise with a large dose of white to set the color off. Turquoise is in the napkins and pillar candles and infuses the vintage glassware. White is in the jacquard table runner, the dinner plates and as the background for the salad plates.

  

 

Decoratively woven rattan placemats bring carefree summer texture and are a nice counterpoint to the bone china salad plates. The plates feature an abundance of flowers that are mostly in shades of pink, though there are lilac, peach and soft golden flowers as well.

   

I'm using enamel and metal napkin rings shaped like dogwood blossoms. I bought them pre-pandemic but haven't used them before, primarily because I only bought four of them. (I know, I know, what was I thinking!?!) Perhaps I can find some more . . . hmmm.

I've used my wedding silverware countless times — proof you can use beautiful flatware on any style of table.

   

I love the form and size of the iced tea glasses! Generous, yet easy to hold. The etched design reminds me of dandelions gone to seed. They were a wonderful find, hidden in the far back of a large antique mall.

I gathered two bunches of flowers at the grocery. One might have been enough, but I wanted the exuberance of a summer flower garden.

 I love using this china pattern, evocative of a summer border with butterflies flitting about.

  

For the settings at either end of the table I chose gold fern-like napkin rings. They feel a bit more formal than those with dogwood blossoms, and they repeat the gold edging on the plates.

   

I really love these bold colors that have similar blossom shapes! Their fragrances are rather subtle though.

I've added an unusual salt cellar, made of a real shell rimmed with sterling silver. Surprisingly the artisan was selling these in the midst of the huge Scott Antique Market.

   

I'm a fan of using lots of white with summer colors. White items add the light and bright of summer sunshine to the mix.
