At the Bistro Table

Finally we had "cool enough" weather — weather cool enough to spend some time enjoying a light meal at the bistro table. All summer through the heat, humidity and almost daily downpours I've looked longingly through the windows  at our deck and patios. Now the season to delight in being outdoors has arrived!

As the shadows lengthened I set a casual charcuterie board for two on the table. An assortment of meats and cheeses are on the hand-crafted wooden board. Three types of fruit, small brioche buns and slices of dark bread are on the small tray.

  

I remembered a set of hand-thrown ceramic goblets that we had packed away when we renovated our kitchen. It was about time to bring them back out! They are a set of four, with the matching tray.

For plates I chose glass plates with a deep plum rim and center. They were a surprise 'just because' gift from Greg. Etched into the rim are vines with leaves and grapes. Beneath are napkins that pick up the the color of the plates with dark magenta blossoms. To see how versatile these napkins are, click on Falling for Apples.

When we built this house, we arranged to retain as many mature trees on the lot as we could. Although we've lost several over the years, we've been rewarded with a mix of tall native trees that provide shade throughout spring, summer and fall. As a bonus, they screen the neighbors' yards. And they make a lovely backdrop for the bistro table.

Fall flowers were gathered at the grocery store in shades of plum, magenta, lime green and gold.

  

We had such a relaxing evening after a long hectic week!

  

After the plates were cleared away, we enjoyed another cup of wine.

  

The flowers will be enjoyed for several more days.
