Valentine's Day is nearly here! Valentine's Day can be romantic, friendly, sentimental, classic or a mixture of all of them. I didn't really focus on Valentine's until my daughter was born and I was able to see holidays of all kinds through her eyes. Suddenly Valentine's Day became something I looked forward to each year. When she was 4, 5, 6 and 7 she had a Valentine's Tea Party with three of her friends and their dolls, complete with "tea", treats and themed crafts.
So of course I set a table for tea for Valentine's Day with the beautiful tea dishes she gave me for Christmas!

The table is set for two, with Irish breakfast tea, delectable sweet and savory treats, fresh flowers and candles.

The flowers are in pretty colors appropriate for Valentine's. They echo the flower-bedecked table runner and the floral design on the china.
The placemats also have a floral design, but one that is softly abstract — and pleated as well! I've had them since our wedding, so 'romantic' is checked. They were used on another type of table: Blues with a Dash of Turquoise.
I think the teapot's shape is elegant, with beautiful, cascading blossoms spilling over the sides. The gold accents gleam against the blue/turquoise of the shoulders and handle.
I love the airy weave of the table runner!
I also love the mix of flowers, which helps nudge the table to 'friendly yet classic'. (And I'm pleased to note the flowers were incredibly fresh.)
The turquoise of the tea dishes is repeated in the bright napkins, held by flowers on striking fabric-covered rings. Next to the dessert plates are brass tea spoons which came with the tea set. You'll notice I've added champagne flutes because my daughter and I both love mimosas!
The tea cups and saucers share the design of the tea pot. The blossoms and branches are painted so delicately!

Now for the treats! There are chocolate drizzled croissants, raspberry linzer cookies, mini vanilla cupcakes, sprinkled yogurt pretzels and two heart-shaped cookies. The pedestal cake plate adds a 'sentimental' touch, since it was my mother's, given to her as a wedding gift. The Elegant glass has lovely etched flowers and was made by New Martinsville in the 'Prelude' pattern.
The sun moving across the windows made pretty patterns on the table.
To add a bit of zest to the table I included vintage purple candlesticks, more for their visual impact since tea is usually a late afternoon affair. (Though with our incessant rain lately, we might just need to light them!)
I'm so looking forward to Valentine's tea with my daughter — even if we will have to do it over facetime.

I had a Mother's Day tea party with my daughter and granddaughter several years ago and it was such a special time.
