Valentine's Day is nearly here! Valentine's Day can be romantic, friendly, sentimental, classic or a mixture of all of them. I didn't really focus on Valentine's until my daughter was born and I was able to see holidays of all kinds through her eyes. Suddenly Valentine's Day became something I looked forward to each year. When she was 4, 5, 6 and 7 she had a Valentine's Tea Party with three of her friends and their dolls, complete with "tea", treats and themed crafts.
So of course I set a table for tea for Valentine's Day with the beautiful tea dishes she gave me for Christmas!
I'm excited to be sharing my table in a wonderful blog hop organized by Rita of Panoply. Join me in visiting the other 19 stylists' Valentine tablescapes linked at the bottom of this post.
The table is set for two, with Irish breakfast tea, delectable sweet and savory treats, fresh flowers and candles.
The flowers are in pretty colors appropriate for Valentine's. They echo the flower-bedecked table runner and the floral design on the china.
The placemats also have a floral design, but one that is softly abstract — and pleated as well! I've had them since our wedding, so 'romantic' is checked. They were used on another type of table: Blues with a Dash of Turquoise.
I think the teapot's shape is elegant, with beautiful, cascading blossoms spilling over the sides. The gold accents gleam against the blue/turquoise of the shoulders and handle.
I love the airy weave of the table runner!
I also love the mix of flowers, which helps nudge the table to 'friendly yet classic'. (And I'm pleased to note the flowers were incredibly fresh.)
The turquoise of the tea dishes is repeated in the bright napkins, held by flowers on striking fabric-covered rings. Next to the dessert plates are brass tea spoons which came with the tea set. You'll notice I've added champagne flutes because my daughter and I both love mimosas!
The tea cups and saucers share the design of the tea pot. The blossoms and branches are painted so delicately!
Now for the treats! There are chocolate drizzled croissants, raspberry linzer cookies, mini vanilla cupcakes, sprinkled yogurt pretzels and two heart-shaped cookies. The pedestal cake plate adds a 'sentimental' touch, since it was my mother's, given to her as a wedding gift. The Elegant glass has lovely etched flowers and was made by New Martinsville in the 'Prelude' pattern.
To add a bit of zest to the table I included vintage purple candlesticks, more for their visual impact since tea is usually a late afternoon affair. (Though with our incessant rain lately, we might just need to light them!)
I'm so looking forward to Valentine's tea with my daughter — even if we will have to do it over facetime.
Happy Valentine’s Day

ReplyDeleteThank you, Cecilia! And thanks for pinning!
DeleteSandra I want to come to your tea party....what a sweet story about your daughter and her tea parties growing up. The turquoise tea pot is perfect (I collect tea pots and if I visited, it might disappear into my bag, tea and all) LOL It is always fun to see the inspiration of different interpretations of all the bloggers. If I get my IT issues worked out, I may post my table too. Happy Valentines day
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kari! I'm commiserating with you about the IT issues. I'd never have guessed I'd need an IT degree (which I don't have) to blog.
DeleteSuch pretty dishes and tea cups! You are right they are so delicately painted. Yea parties are a favorite around here with my granddaughters 🥰
ReplyDeleteKarin
Thanks, Karin! I still enjoy tea parties -- and hot chocolate parties too!

I had a Mother's Day tea party with my daughter and granddaughter several years ago and it was such a special time. I love how you styled the table runner and choose flowers to blend with your placemat colors and beautiful tea cups. The goodie plate is very tempting, and yes I'd love a mimosa please! Just lovely!

The colors and pattern in the teapot, teacups, and saucers are just so pretty and I love the napkins to match. The flowers are gorgeous and the table runner and placemats tie in so well with your color theme. The plate of goodies looks divine. I hope you and your daughter have a lovely Valentine's get together no matter how it happens and wishing you a happy Valentine's day!

DeleteWhat a gorgeous tea set your daughter gifted you! The predominant color reminds me of Tiffany blue, and that floral design is subtle nod to spring coming soon. The classic, gold-rimmed plates and spoons elevate the look even more. I love that you have your mother's cake stand, and using the placemats from your wedding gifts is a sweet reminder of the love celebrated. Enjoy your teatime with your daughter, and thank you for bringing us along to enjoy it too!❣️
ReplyDeleteRita, thank you for your sweet comments! The tea set is even prettier in person and will be one I use for a long time to come. I'm lucky that I have a number of my mother's dinnerware pieces. I enjoy using them and remembering setting her tables with them. Happy Valentine's Day!
DeleteTea is such a wonderful institution, Sandra, and I would enjoy it all the more at your lovely table. The teapot and cups are really beautiful and set the mood for a lovely get together with your daughter. Love the combination of flowers and the napkins that all it together. It would be beautiful even without the promise of "treats". LOL Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLynne

DeleteGorgeous tea set, and love the thought of a Valentine Tea tradition with your daughter. I loved Valentine's Day as a child, but nothing special other than a party at school. I would have loved it if my mom had started a tea party tradition. Your flowers and details on the table are a treat for the eyes. Thanks for sharing! Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah! I'm touched that my daughter cherishes our tea parties still. Enjoy your Valentine's Day!

DeleteSandra, what a cozy luncheon Valentine's Day tablescape. I love how you made use of teal to enhance the colors from your tea pot and cups. They are so beautiful! And your treats are looking so good to me that I am finding it hard to concentrate on this inviting tablescape. Your placemats and open weave runner are such a perfect match to go with your teapot and cups. They were meant to be together. I am sure this lovely setting will create the perfect place to enjoy long conversations with family or friends. Beautiful. Happy Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! As soon as I received the tea set I knew that the napkins would pair perfectly. I had a fun time finding the right runner/placemat combination. Since I love blues and greens I had several to choose from. Happy Valentine's Day!

The sweet treats look scrumptious! I hope that you have a happy Valentine's Day!

We are so lucky to have the technology we do today! A very Happy Valentine's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maureen! I think one of the things I like about Valentine's is that you can do light, colorful and cheery, no matter that it's winter right outside the door. I'm not sure how the facetime tea party will work, but I think it will be fun to try! Happy Valentine's Day!
DeleteSandra, I love this Valentine's Tea Table. I am so excited to be featuring you at the Home Imagined Link party this Tuesday. Congrats! See you there.-Meagan
