Looking Back at Five Thanksgiving Tables

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, full of family and friends and memories of those we miss. Grounded in tradition through favorite recipes and holiday decor, Thanksgiving nevertheless provides a chance to tweak traditions a bit or create new ones. 

 

Above all, Thanksgiving is a celebration, so I like to set a table that's special! Today I thought I'd share five of the tables I've set in other years that I hope will inspire you to make your own table special! Just click on the titles to see more of each post.

Although Thanksgiving can suggest a crowd, in A Thanksgiving Table for Four I showed how a smaller table can be set with just as much ceremony. Pumpkins and acorns join magnolia leaves for a low centerpiece.

  

In Grateful Harvest I used an extraordinary hand-woven table runner as the focus of the table. Sparkling gold threads are woven throughout the runner, so green and gold became the colors that repeated in other elements on the table.

    

Crystal, silver and gold gleamed for Elegance and Candlelight, with lovely patterned linens adding a contemporary ambience.

 

  

Against the colors of fall in A Seasonal Table for Thanksgiving, mixed metals came into their own — the warmth of copper, the soft glow of silver, and the sparkle of gold. I then used vibrant salad plates that are like Old Master paintings.

  

 

Thanksgiving in Blue and Gold  celebrates my favorite color on my favorite holiday. A fabulous tureen served as the centerpiece.

  

And if you missed it, my table for this year — Patterns in Blue for Thanksgiving — is a blend of new and old(er) elements. Not quite formal, but still elegant, it is based on compatible blue patterns spiced with copper.
