Fall Vignettes - Pumpkins in the House

I seem to have acquired a lot of pumpkins in the past few years. I have pumpkins made of glass and others that are ceramic. I have a few velveteen covered pumpkins and a large array of foam pumpkins in a variety of sizes. In most years I add real pumpkins to the mix. Greg says I have enough. He's probably right, lol!

I've used mostly pumpkins in this autumn's vignettes, a bit of a change from those I've done previously. On the kitchen island I used multiple colors and shapes on two cake stands. A coordinating towel bunched around their bases adds warmth to the cool colors of the granite.

I added a candle in a warm copper and two candle holders in bronze metal. The candle holders have cutout pumpkin shapes!

Throughout the year I have seasonal displays in the bottom shelf of the built-in hutch that stores crystal and glassware. This fall I've used blue and white china, pumpkins, a sparkly wire ball and — with a nod to Thanksgiving — a turkey.

I'm not a huge fan of decorating with turkey themes, but I thought this fellow was cute!

I have problems photographing anything I put in the kitchen cabinets and built-ins. The glass fronted ones have interior lights, which are pretty in person but throw too much glare. Ditto the overhead recessed lights. Although the kitchen itself can be bright in natural light, the dark cabinet color absorbs the light. I'm upgrading to a better camera soon, so fingers crossed for future pics!

I like how each vignette refers to the other.

I keep our everyday dishes in the other built-in hutch. For fall I've added ceramic pheasants, quails and ducks. But no pumpkins!

I've added fall decor to the foyer chest. More pumpkins, this time with both a vine ball and a sparkly wire ball. I placed faux mums and berries in the ceramic container I used for the greens of March.

I love how all the shades of autumn mix effortlessly.

Greg is somewhat aghast that I didn't polish the candelabras, but the warm glow of the slightly tarnished pieces seemed right for fall.

I haven't yet decorated any other areas for fall. A bit behind, I'll admit.

Tell me, where do you stand on fall decor this year?

  1. Sandra, your pumpkin and fowl vignettes are so pretty and so fall. What a lovely assortment you have! As for where I stand on fall decor? I've put the glass pumpkins in the dough bowl on the coffee table and changed out the accent pillows in the living room. I haven't even posted a Thanksgiving tablecape yet. Pretty bad, but I'm inspired by your vignettes. Happy Monday!

  3. Sandra, I am a firm believer that one can never have too many pumpkins! Real or faux, large or small, ceramic or velvet, bring em on!! I love your bronze candle holders, my eye was drawn to them right away, so cute!! I love the turkey in your hutch too, he has a sassy personality! The pheasants, quail and ducks are wonderful with your dishes too, lots of fun fall touches and colors throughout your home. I can't believe in 3 short weeks we will be putting fall away and pulling out the red and green! Have a great week Sandra!

    1. Jenna, thanks so much for your lovely comments! I have enough pumpkins that I think I can add a few more without my husband noticing, lol. I have the most fun decorating for fall and spring -- I think the thought of new beginnings and major changes really appeals to me. I hold off decorating for the Christmas season until early December, but then we traditionally keep holiday decor up through early January. Hope things are going well!

  4. Beautiful vignettes dear friend. Pumpkins are so cute, warm and inviting.
I love your hutch and I have one similar with my stems and I should style the last shel as you did. I even have the same plates, lol... I'm sad Fall decor is over sort of fast and now I'm even decorating for Christmas frugally, here and there.
