Silver and White for Embracing January

Every season has its beauty. On this cold, blustery day, I decided to embrace January's by setting a glittery table of silver and white.

Originally I had planned a cozy table to warm the spirit and envelope dinner guests in comfort. But the pictures of snowy landscapes across the country had me yearning for something similar here.

So I gathered crystal and silver to stand in for ice and snow, and contrasted them with one of the abundant evergreens that we are graced with.

The place settings begin with silver placemats layered with warmer silver-plated trays collected over time and used as chargers, white dinner plates trimmed with platinum, and salad plates that shimmer in silver and gray, rather like snowflakes.

Faux gardenia clippings are joined by frosted pine cones as a centerpiece. Although the gardenias in my garden are evergreen they won't bloom for several months.

Glittered penguins bought in the after-Christmas sales seemed to be the perfect visitors. Love the little crowns they wear and their inquisitive expressions. Unfortunately I couldn't effectively hide the cords used to hang the ornaments. At least you notice them a bit less in person.

The centerpiece splays outward, so it won't discourage cross-table conversation.

I've used vintage salt and pepper shakers to reference the outdoors. (I hadn't realized how in need of polishing they were, lol!)

The details on the covered jar drew me in and the color — silver leaning towards pewter — made this the perfect choice for the centerpiece. You've seen it before, here

The bowls of this vintage glassware are cut in a pattern of circles that repeat the circles on the salad plates (which first made their appearance here).

The glittery lines on the runner play counterpoint to the warm tones of the pewter candlesticks and the centerpiece jar.

Working on this post I've decided I need to work on my photographic skills!

Inspiration can be found all around you, even on a frosty day!

  4. Same with me here - white, silver, and touches of dark green for my winter look. White and silver are my go-to base almost year round. Those bird shakers are beautiful.
