The Garden Awakens

The unusually warm winter has awakened the garden.

But the nandina are holding onto their fall/winter colors.

The camellias bloom in February in a normal year. Or at least two of the three do. The third camellia, which has white blossoms edged in an orange-pink, has only bloomed three of the past ten years, and is not blooming this year.

Crocuses were the first perennials up. These are all that's left from last night's bunny buffet!

Next up were the daffodils, thankfully unloved by the bunnies and deer.

The pink hyacinths have begun to open - the purple ones won't be far behind!

Loropetalum brightens the corners of our yard.

I was astounded to see the daylilies - way ahead of schedule, though they won't bloom for several weeks.

Perhaps they're right and spring really is just around the corner!

    1. I should have waited a few days for photos. With just a bit of rain, many more have come up. Purple hyacinths and white jonquils have appeared. Thanks for visiting!

  5. OMGoodness, you are WAY ahead of us. However, we have hyacinths that came up and daffodils also then got covered in the snow and ice so I don't know what will happen! nandina is one of my hubby's favorite bushes!

    1. The garden had really started to bloom - more hyacinths and the azaleas were opening. Then we got hit with sub-freezing temps and that was that! I've got my fingers crossed that at least some of the azalea buds survive. It's been such crazy weather!
