Welcome to my dream of a white (and blue) Christmas!
I thought I'd set a table sprinkled with snow, featuring blue tones inspired by a Santa and two of his reindeer dressed in navy blue. I've set it for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop organized by the creative Rita of Panoply. There are seventeen of us sharing our ideas for festive tables perfect for celebrating! You'll be sure to enjoy all of the tables — their links are listed at the end of this post.
Woodland creatures peek out from Santa's robes as wonderfully detailed deer prance to either side.
Under Santa and the reindeer I placed a white runner trimmed in a chameleon blue that changes with the light. On the placemats I started with a white dinner plate edged with bands of gold and mottled blue, then a pale blue glass salad plate. On top is a matching bowl.
I've again chosen silver flatware that I loved long before I received my first pieces. I've added to my set over the years, most recently these cream soup spoons. The silver adds such festive shine! As it did in A Modern Take on a Traditional Pattern.
The deer are candle holders and Santa is a cookie jar — but they're purely decorative here. Nestled in the pine boughs are votive candles in faceted containers and a few white ornaments to suggest ice and snow.
Brass napkin rings that echo the gold on the china encircle navy napkins. This photo provides the best view of the salad plates which were also used in A Wisteria Garden Table.
The clear crystal goblets have a ring of
dots bisected by vertical cuts around the bowl and are a
nice weight in the hand. Their modern design contrasts with blue hock wine glasses which have a finely cut stem and
interesting botanical and geometric patterns.
"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know" but haven't had much of chance to experience since moving to Georgia. But I can always dream!
I love using salt cellars for special dinners — especially when their cobalt blue glass liners coordinate with my theme! The pink salt crystals are a pretty surprise.
A pair of tall crystal candlesticks anchor the centerpiece with flair.
They are a nice contrast to the four low votives.

Such gorgeous reindeer figures, and the Santa is pretty special too. Love the salt cellars, and I like pink Himalayan salt as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carole! They're some of my 'treasures'.
DeleteI am a big fan of white and blue, Sandra, and your beautiful tablescape reminds me of a starry night in deep winter with snow covering the ground and such stillness everywhere. The blue and gold bordered dishes are perfect for this setting and go so well with the linens you chose. The reindeer are so detailed and perfect for the centerpiece as is the Santa cookie jar. Are they Fitz & Floyd? The cobalt blue wine glass is gorgeous and ties all the blues on y our table together. anyone would be delighted to sit as such a festive holiday table. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLynne

ReplyDeleteThanks, Cecilia! I think those were the best candlelight photos I've taken.
DeleteSandra, The blue and white color scheme of your table and Santa’s coats is even more stunning given the color of your beautiful dining room! Love the sweet bunnies with Santa as well as the prancing deer. Your dinnerware is so elegant with the gold rims and paired with the cobalt and crystal stems, and sparkling silverware. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Wishing you a very Merry December! ❤️🎄
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Mary! I let Santa choose the theme and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. Merry Christmas!
DeleteI like the white and blue combination, and your high and low candlesticks are so pretty! The salt cellars add an elegant touch to your table, and so does the Santa: That's one fancy cookie jar! I like it in the center of your table, and I also like the deer. Your table linens are pretty and tie everything together so well. Brava! One of my favorites from the hop. Have a Merry Christmas! XO, Ricki Jill
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ricki! I liked that Santa was as interesting from the back and sides as he was from the front so that everyone at the table had a lovely view. And so he set the tone for everything else. Merry Christmas!
DeleteWhat a beautiful tablescape. Those colors are so pretty. Visiting from Wonderful Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennifer! I'm so glad you stopped by!
DeleteSandra, merry merry, your table is stunning in blue. Those cobalt blue goblets are so gorgeous. Love the white and blue together. So unique and super striking. Santa is shining through with his elaborate color and design. The deer are so beautiful. Always a pleasure joining you. Happy Holidays.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda! The blue of the goblets is even deeper in person and even the etched stems sparkle. They were a natural fit with the rest of the table! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
DeleteI am normally a traditional red/green Christmas person but this blue/white theme really struck a chord with me. That gorgeous Santa with the animals peeping out along with the leaping reindeer all fit this theme so well and I will now be looking for items with different color schemes based on your beautiful combination. Thanks so much for steering me in a new and exciting direcion.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ellen, I'm glad my table started that process for you! I too generally gravitate to red/green at Christmas but I've been trying new styles and colors. Merry Christmas!
DeleteYour table is gorgeous Sandra! Santa is regal in the center flanked by the beautiful reindeer, these pieces are stunning! Your plate stacks are beautiful, and the cut crystal stemware is so so pretty. The deep blue with white is elegant and the Santa adds a gentle touch of whimsey. Candlelight always adds a special effect, it's all just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Thanks so much, Jenna! My first time trying a table setting with Santa and friends and I'm pleased with the way it turned out. I wish you could see the blue crystal in person! Merry Christmas
DeleteSandra, I love the blue and white, it is perfect with your gorgeous wall color! The room and your table have a stately elegance, The dinnerware is gorgeous with the gold rim and you always have lovely glassware. The cobalt stemware is stunning. The Fitz and Floyd Santa and prancing reindeer make an eye-catching centerpiece! I always love visiting your dining room. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Pam! My favorite color is blue and I like to use it often. I found the china at an antique mall and the third time I visited the booth and it was still there I knew it was coming home with me! Hope you enjoy the holiday season!
DeleteMy sentiments exactly Sandra...Pam's of course just above me. The blue and white is a wonderful contrast as the song" I'll have a blue Christmas without you "goes through my head. I like the Santa cookie jar and the deer candle holders. Thanks for including night time photos as it just makes your table glitter and glow. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kari! I liked trying a different color combination from my usual holiday settings, though I'll never abandon red and green. I think those were the best photos I've ever taken in candlelight. Merry Christmas!
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm so glad you came by!
DeleteOh my, Sandra, just stunning! The simplicity of the gorgeous china and silverware give way for the Fitz & Floyd centerpieces and crystal to literally shine! The crystal pairing is just beautiful, and I love salt cellars with the cobalt centers. Your dining room is so gorgeous, and this tablescape is the perfect complement to its design. Very well done. Thank you for sharing your inspiring collections and being a part of this group of stylists. So pretty! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks so much, Rita! I love a reason to really dress the table and holidays and special occasions are the perfect opportunity. I've recently become entranced with salt cellars -- and the zest of artisan salts -- and discovered they're found in lots of places. And that they're being crafted by artists again! Happy Holidays!
DeleteWow, Sandra! Your Santa and his reindeer are fabulous!! So gorgeous! And you have set such a beautiful table to show them off!! Very Pretty!! Love the stemware!! I hope you have a very merry Christmas season 🎄🤶
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann! I was smitten by Santa and surprised he was a cookie jar, though I would never use him as such. I loved all the details on him and the reindeer, and thought the little woodland animals was a lovely touch. Happy Holiday!
DeleteSandra, this is absolutely beautiful! I love the white, and blue, and silver theme that you chose here. The table runner and placemats are such a gorgeous blue and I love that cobalt shade. The plate stack is so pretty, but, oh my, those cut crystal blue wine glasses are just stunning. Your pictures are fabulous but I'm betting the table is even more spectacular in person. The Santa and reindeer are adorable and the pretty silverware add the perfect final touch. Really lovely, all of it. I hope you and your family have a glorious Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim! I wanted to evoke the colors of ice and snow and was really glad I found table linens that matched my vision so well. The blue crystal wine hocks are beautiful in person -- I think European crystal is especially striking. Thanks again, and have a very Merry Christmas!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much, MaryJo! Santa inspired me and I just kind of ran with it. The cut-to-clear crystal plays with the light so nicely. The china was an incredible find at an antique mall -- complete settings for 10 plus serving pieces! (I'm going to have to stay out of antique malls for a while lol.) Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!
