The Colorful Summer Garden

When last we met in the garden it was late April, after the spring bulbs and shrubs had brought delight to the front gardens.

May arrived with Japanese, bearded and Siberian irises in shades of purple and white.

 Hot pink florets cover resilient shrubs, that had survived encroaching shade from a cherry tree.

For the summer, the garden emphasis moves to the back yard, where most of the action is in containers. Why? Well first of all, the backyard is undergoing a near total renovation, from the deck to the patios to the pond. And secondly, the furry ones (our labs) firmly believe if something new has been planted, they must remove it from the soil! Neatly, to be sure! So flowers especially are definitely safer in containers.

 

Except for the blooming succulent, the backyard continues the purple/white/pink color scheme.
