We are in the middle of week 9 of sheltering at home. We got a bit of an early start since Greg was scheduled for out-patient surgery at the beginning of March. (He's doing great now.) You'd think I'd have a set routine by now, but it still varies by the day. The better the weather, the more walks the two furry ones insist on!
Having a cup or two of tea has always been my quiet time. This morning I'm having it in the living room, off-limits to the four-legged ones.
I cleared off a small table and set out a pretty tea set that Greg gave me a year or two ago. Just because. The best-ever reason for a thoughtful gift!
The tea pot, sugar and creamer are a dreamy shade of light blue, with charming songbirds among the cherry tree branches. The linens are in pretty spring colors.
Outside is a chorus of birdsong, more than I've heard in a while. Last spring Miss J and I spent many hours identifying the unseen birds by their song. I wish I could share this with her, but she's 1,400 miles away. Soon, I hope, we'll be able to visit her.
Today I'm having Irish breakfast tea, my favorite since our trip to Ireland. I posted a re-creation of an Irish castle's table in Re-creating the Table at Kilkenny Castle. Photos from the trip have inspired several of my other tablescapes as well.
My cup and saucer are 1950's vintage. I love the scrolling pattern in shades of aqua, brown and gold. To me the pattern conveys a French flair. (Or perhaps an ostrich plume to go with the birds on the tea set, lol.)
By sheer happenstance, the china's swirls echo those inlaid in the table.
Through the window you can just glimpse a Japanese maple, in a beautiful shade of red. It will turn green for the summer, then burst into red again in the fall.
Beyond the maple, the first bearded iris has bloomed. I shared other spring flowers from my garden in The Spring Garden Unfolds.
I have enjoyed this breakfast tea so much that perhaps I'll do it again!
