Early Fall Vignettes

I've been inspired by all the fall decor I've seen in the stores and on blogs this week. I decided it was about time to add some fall items to my house, even though we're still sweltering in 90 degree heat (and drought conditions, but that's a different story).

I started in the dining room, adding golden Rudbeckia in a basket with a handle made from a shed antler to the coffee/tea tray. Nestled beneath are mini pumpkins from the craft store. I didn't polish the silver because the warm patina it has developed is perfect for autumn.

Pheasants are associated with autumn and their golden color adds to the warmth of the buffet.

I used a table runner with late summer wildflowers beneath a centerpiece of faux flowers. We have some travel plans and I won't need to worry about real flowers.

The centerpiece seemed rather lonely, so I added a ceramic pumpkin and quail.

Berries added height to the arrangement.

Pumpkins, wicker balls and candelabra with that soft patina add interest to the chest in the foyer. The tapestry hanging behind comes into its own in the fall, with greens, muted blues, creams and russets.

The pumpkins are new this year. See the marbled ones? They're actually styrofoam!

Ceramic acorns were casually included.

In the kitchen I've decorated the crystal cabinet with blue and white china and more mini pumpkins and gourds.

The mantle in the family room received an update as well. Gone are the summer arrangements and in their place are chrysanthemums and velvet pumpkins.

Vignettes the color of fall. . .

I'll probably tweak these a bit, but for now they say fall is coming!

  3. Sandra - love your vignettes! And I am loving your chest (hall) and cabinet in your dining room! They are gorgeous! Are they vintage or where did you source them? Same with the brass pheasants -- gorg! And where did you find them? Penny (srmarymaid@aol.com)

    1. Thanks, Penny, I'm so glad you enjoyed them! The chest came from France. I bought it new from a furniture store that was going out of business about 20 years ago. The cabinet is a built-in located in the kitchen. The pheasants are pretty and I love them, but I don't believe they're vintage either, although I found them in an 'antique' mall. They're painted, probably resin or something similar.

    1. Thanks, Julie! I was delighted to find berries -- something that speaks 'fall' and isn't a pumpkin, although I love pumpkins too!
