Blue and Copper for Effortless Style

I love setting tables! Pretty tables, casual tables, formal tables, simple tables, over-the-top tables. Tables befitting the occasion or just my mood of the day!

 

Now that we're firmly in October, I began this table with a simple table runner and placemats in copper. They are a blend of copper tones with a bit of texture from the weave that gives them a slight shimmer.

 

Blues or greens are my favorite colors to mix with copper. I chose blue today — the intricate designs on the dishes effortlessly add graceful style.

 

The simple centerpiece consists of a covered soup tureen in the same pattern. It's both stylish and practical — it will serve the first of the fall soups.

 

Flanking the tureen are pillar candles and silk chrysanthemums in shades of copper, orange and yellow.

 

Hand-crafted copper napkin rings bring patina to the table. I bought them last year at my favorite craft council show in Atlanta. They were featured in Understated Pumpkins.

 

I love the lions' heads and feet on the antique salt cellar!

 

The glass candle holders and vases provide sparkle but don't conflict with the other table elements.

 

Style doesn’t require buying new things for each table you set. The only thing I didn't already have was the marbleized craft paper cut to fit the glass hurricanes used as vases. I didn't need the paper, but it hides the stems nicely.

 

 

Since I have a blue and copper theme today, I thought I'd share a photo of the dining room chairs. We found them several years ago at a consignment store. We liked the burled wood and lines of the chairs, there were enough of them to fit the table, and they came with a blue and white chinoiserie fabric edged in navy trim.

 

 

The china pattern is Blue Danube -- one of the top ten patterns at Replacements. I've always thought it charming. (I'm not affiliated with or compensated by Replacements. I just thought this was interesting.)

 

 

I spent only $8 on the silverplate ladle at an antique store several years ago. The downward curve of the handle makes it perfect for tureens.

 

The morning sun is beginning to stream through the dining room.
