Fall Beckons with Leaves on the Table

We seem to be rushing ever faster through September. Fall now beckons, although summer is hanging on. But leaves in the garden have started to change colors, so I decided a table to welcome fall was needed.

Since it feels very much like summer still, I wanted to bridge both summer and fall. Leaves became the perfect theme! I immediately thought of these plates with a border of leaves. Their olive leaves definitely hint at fall, while the bright turquoise ones are the color of a brilliant summer day.

Grapes (or are they berries?) bring a deep purple to the mix, a color repeated in the wine glasses and, in a lighter shade, the napkins.

The placemats, which you first saw in a spring table, continue the theme, and leaves adorn the napkin rings.

For a centerpiece I simply gathered leaves from the garden, then interspersed them with faux lavender. (A tip for using leaves from the garden -- wipe them gently with a damp paper towel to bring back their sheen.)

I added ceramic quail to the centerpiece, birds that always make me think of fall. These are considered covered boxes. Love their detail!

To bring some height, but not enough to block conversation, I added turquoise tapers in pewter candle holders.

Jaunty quail salt and pepper shakers have joined the table, bringing more fall colors with them.

Nandina leaves in pale green, gold and rust contrast with the dark green camellia leaves. Pewter glows more warmly than silver, on candle holders I've had forever.

Soft colors are beginning to deepen for fall. Soon there will be crimsons and russets, golds and browns.

But not yet!

  12. Of course, those quail are Fitz & Floyd. I absolutely love them, and I love Fitz & Floyd, and have done since I was in high school and first discovered them, more years ago that I care to admit. I have been wanting to do something different with my table this year, and I was thinking of gamebirds, believe it or not. I have the F&F pheasant teapot that would make a nice addition, but I definitely need to look into these quail. The salt and pepper shakers are adorable.
