An Everyday Table

I totally enjoy designing tablescapes for holidays and special occasions, but of course we don't celebrate special occasions every day. That doesn't mean we can't put a little thought into the settings we have from day to day.

 

For today's post, I thought I'd show you what our usual table looks like. We eat most of our meals in what we call the breakfast room, an open space between the kitchen and family room. My favorite thing about the breakfast room is the view of the backyard trees.

A couple of years ago, Greg and I marked our anniversary by treating ourselves to a new set of everyday dishes. We both still like our original set (seen in Blues with a Dash of Turquoise), but wanted to change things up after 20 or so years.

The pattern we chose was "French Garden". I liked that the pattern has a mixture of designs and shapes . . . and lots of possibilities!

Sometimes we have a centerpiece, sometimes just salt and pepper shakers. Today I've used a potted lantana that's destined to be transplanted into the garden. It's just beginning to bloom.

I used pink tissue paper to hide the garish pot the lantana is in, and placed it in a pretty blue ceramic pot that will hold one of the other flowers I bought – one that won't get anywhere near the size the lantana will.

To continue the pink inspiration, I've used flowered napkin rings in several shades. And for homemade lemon ice cream we'll use these cute bowls with pink cherries. 

I'm using placemats today, in a pretty green that picks up the colors of the plates. There's a variety of placemats and tablecloths that I'll use, just to change things around.

I've found these dishes go well with others I have, such as the ones seen in Casual Fall Setting, Summer Bounty, and Falling for Apples.

At the last minute I moved the napkin onto the plate stack. Which position do you like the napkin in? I think I like both!
