Snowy Holiday Scenes for an Entry Tray

One of the simplest ways to decorate for the Christmas season is is to gather holiday items and place them together on a tray. This is also my favorite way to showcase smaller objects that might be overlooked if scattered across the room.

Today I'm sharing a holiday tray with you that I styled for the Christmas on a Tray blog tour organized by Katherine of Katherine's Corner. If you are continuing the tour from Common Ground, welcome and thank you! And if you are a regular visitor, I think you will find some great inspiration from all the tour participants listed at the end of the post!

I started with the tray I had used for my autumn display. The shells on the margin take on an icy feel here in a wintry setting. To create miniature holiday scenes, I pulled together items that shared the traditional colors of red and green, but had differing textures. Metal, shell, porcelain, glass, snow, bottle brush — all bring something unique to the mix.

An overnight snowfall has dusted the trees and the yard in front of the red house. Imagine all the views one would have from the house. At night the moonlight would shine through the skylights!

Small glass ornaments are scattered in the snow, along with a few holly and berry picks.

A Christmas tree complete with presents and candy canes was placed in the yard. Santa has arrived!

Next to that Christmas tree is another, bedecked with a large red ribbon.

I love the detail of the items decorating the sugar bowl and pitcher (both from Spode). The bird and birdhouses are so cute!

The tray is currently located on the chest in the entryway to greet all visitors. Because this tray sits against the tapestry, it has a defined perspective from three sides. After the kitchen island is no longer needed for baking, I'll probably move it there, and shift the items a bit so it's pleasing from all sides. Minus the ornaments and Christmas tree china pieces, the tray could easily be used throughout the winter months.

Happy Holidays!

I hope you've enjoyed the mini holiday scenes on my snowy entry tray. Please continue the Christmas on a Tray blog tour by visiting My Home of All Seasons for her pretty tiered tray! After which I'm sure you will want to see the trays from all the stylists!

  1. Such a gorgeous landscape you created on your tray Sandra! It looks just like a snowy forest with all the trees surrounding your pretty red house. I love your Spode pitcher and it fits in so perfectly with your holiday scene. The little touches that always make your tablescapes so beautiful are carried over here too. Thanks for the inspiration and a Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  16. Oh Sandra, what a wonderful little winter scene you have created with your tray! I love the sparkling snow! Maybe that is because in Florida I don't get any real snow! Your bottle brush trees set the scene perfectly around your your little red house, but the Spode trees are truly outstanding! I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas!
