An Easter Table with Hydrangeas in the Meadows

I found inspiration in the unlikeliest of places this week — the grocery store. Just inside the front door was a large display of blooming potted plants. I stopped in front of the hydrangeas, and this one came home with me. The opening blossoms are a lovely lime green, changing to periwinkle as they mature. Irresistible!

And I knew the flowers would go beautifully with the bunny plates I had bought on sale last year.

I wrapped the hydrangea in periwinkle blue tissue paper I had on hand and placed it it a vintage glass bowl of the same color. It instantly became the focal point of the table.

Under the bunny plates are my wedding dinner plates and green glass chargers that have a nice cross-hatch texture.

The scenes on the salad plates depict wildflower meadows. I like how the bunnies seem to be watching the butterflies!

The vintage etched stemware repeats the blue of the flowers on the plates and in the glass centerpiece. Repetition of color or pattern establishes a cohesive link between different design styles and eras.

I bought matching napkin rings on sale last summer, loving the wildflowers. The trellis-like borders on the napkins seem to replicate the cross-hatch of the chargers, though they were bought years apart.

The bunny sugar bowl, creamer and teapot were retrieved from last week's pastel bunnies vignette. They seemed happy to join the group!

For a bit of whimsy, marshmallow pops were added to the hydrangea pot. This one has a chick, flower and decorated egg (mostly hidden by the leaves). The other one features a bunny, flower and decorated egg.

In this overview shot, you can see I've used the lavender tablecloth from this post, layered with an antique Irish linen cloth first used on this table.

The hand-embroidered linen table covering with an intricate hand-crocheted edging dates between 1900-1910. It is in beautiful condition.

Speckled eggs were placed on the corners of the crocheted border, seen more clearly in this photo. With a nod to Easter tradition, foil-covered chocolate eggs fill my mother's etched bowl with underplate (usually called a mayonnaise bowl if you are searching for something similar).

The opposite corner features a blue mayonnaise bowl set filled with pastel candy corn. (Who knew? lol)

Just because I love these egg cups, I added them atop the plates.

Minus the Easter eggs, this table can carry us through all of April.

Love how the colors blend!

I've simplified the decor on the buffet, using only faux flowers and cute bunnies.

In spite of the unsettling days we find ourselves in, I wanted to set a pretty table for Easter, to celebrate the beauty of spring and remind myself that better days will come. I hope you will too!

    1. Thanks, Sandi! I'm fascinated by the handiwork of antique linens. In Ireland we stopped in a small museum that showcased the history of Irish lace and linens. Such beautiful, intricate designs!

    1. Fabby, thanks so much for your sweet comments. I certainly missed having family around our table. And we spent the night in our lower level with tornado sirens going off all night. But we are safe and sound.
