Flowering Shrubs in the Garden

I think Northern Georgia is at its prettiest when the flowering shrubs explode in bloom in spring. It's sudden and spectacular, and transitions the garden from the early spring bulbs to full-blown summer perennial beds.

My spring garden relies on azaleas, Pieris japonica, native azaleas and Fothergilla gardenii for lovely color and graceful silhouettes.

Pieris japonica, the Japanese andromeda

deciduous Rhododendron canescens

Narcissus 'Thalia'

Clematis

Fothergilla gardenii

I hope you've enjoyed visiting my spring garden!

  2. Lovely! Your flowering shrubs are gorgeous. I’m just beginning with tulips and daffodils in bloom. Still leafing out on the trees. Those azaleas are amazing!

    1. Thanks, Liz! I have to admit that when they're in flower is my favorite season in the garden. I'd love to have tulips, but with all the critters around the only ones that have of chance of surviving are planted in pots.

  3. Sandra,
Your blooms are simply stunning!! Too bad we can not have these lovely Spring flowers last a bit longer than they do!! Wouldn't that be wonderful??? Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comment!!

  5. Oh your garden is definitely exploding with flowers. Every time I see posts about gardens in the South, I miss my North Carolina home so much. And Never heard of the Japanese andromeda plant, and I think it just went on my list for next year. :)

    1. Thank you! Southern gardens are a different kind of garden, says this Ohio transplant! I love Pieris and bonus! they're evergreen here. And work well in containers, too.

    1. Thanks, Christine! The Japanese maple leafs out in red, turns green, and blazes red again in fall. Can't ask for more!
