Casual Fall Setting in the Breakfast Room

Well, the calendar says mid-October, but it still feels like late summer here in north Georgia! Temperatures during the day still hover in the 80s, but the evenings have been cooler.  So I decided that it's time to begin acknowledging the calendar by designing the table in the breakfast room for fall.

The day was overcast -- disappointing for the photos.

The breakfast room is between the kitchen and the family room and is where we eat most of our meals. The table can seat six, but we usually have it set for four, for when it's just me, G (the Husband), Daughter J, and a good friend.

I've set the table for a casual meal, using things that can transition from breakfast to dinner. Sometimes I use a tablecloth, but today I've used only dark rattan chargers, trellis patterned dinner plates and salad plates that will soon reflect the changing colors of the leaves through the windows. The contemporary salad plates contrast with the traditional dinner plates, yet both relate to the outdoors.

We've had the breakfast table for a number of years. I've always loved the mosaic design, and the muted colors share the autumn spectrum.

One way to celebrate fall is to bring out my bobwhite salt and pepper shakers with coordinating underplate. I think the level of detail is gorgeous.

This lovely small pitcher is for serving syrups or other sauces. Made in England, we found it at a local antique store.

Taken the next morning

The water pitcher was also made in England, and purchased at the same time as the syrup pitcher. The ribs on the pitcher echo those on the small pumpkin in the background.

And speaking of pumpkins, I placed four of different sizes, colors and patterns on one of the rattan chargers to create a simple centerpiece that will carry us through to the holidays.

This photo shows one of the place settings in more detail.  The olive napkin plays off the green in the dinner plate, but darkens the hue. The flatware is my everyday set, that I started collecting after college. The salad plate is one of four patterns which incorporate watercolor paintings of autumn leaves. The dark rattan of the charger grounds the setting in the fall season.

I like the textures of the charger and napkin against the mosaic table.

Our everyday glassware, which continues the nature theme (although from a different climate zone!)

I think we'll be enjoying this table for casual meals throughout the fall. Thanks for coming to Dinner at Eight!
